Summary

We are seeking an outstanding individual who is passionate about cyber security, artificial intelligence and responsible technology to make an academic contribution in the subject area of Cyber Security.

The successful candidate will have expertise in one or more relevant areas, such as artificial intelligence, generative AI, AI governance, cyber security, digital forensics, cyber threat intelligence. and other related areas.

Having achieved the National Cyber Security Centre (NCSC) full certification for excellence in Cyber Security for our MSc Cyber Security, your contribution to the more technical areas of teaching will be highly valued.

The range of courses and subjects taught will enable myriad opportunities to grow and develop your portfolio of knowledge in the discipline. You will contribute to the delivery and development of our innovative undergraduate and postgraduate programmes, helping to equip the next generation of cyber security practitioners.

We are really proud of our work environment; undergraduates, postgraduates, and research students work together alongside academic and support staff. The way we teach here is non-traditional, you won’t be handed a menu of content to serve up to the students. Instead, we follow an applied, project-based approach to learning.

Join our team and you’ll gain access to extraordinary facilities and equipment, such as:

• The world’s largest PlayStation development lab.

• Cyber security labs with the latest forensic equipment.

The Cyber Security degree requires students to develop a strong working knowledge of ethical hacking, network intrusion detection and computer network security. In their final year, students can engage with specialist areas including advanced penetration testing, information security management, cyber threat intelligence and virtualisation technologies, such as software-defined networking.

• data analytics

• computer games development

• AI

• machine learning

• cyber security

• cyber forensics

• smart technologies.

Our School is located right at the heart of Sheffield city centre, putting you right in the middle of this industry. Sheffield is home to a thriving digital and tech industry, employing over 21,000 people and generating billions of pounds in the region.

Alongside our many connections with digital and tech businesses, we conduct our own work in industry. Steel Minions is our commercial games development studio, where students create and publish their own games on the PlayStation store. We also work closely with the Advanced Wellbeing Research Centre (AWRC), the Advanced Food Innovation Centre (AFIC), and the Centre of Excellence in Terrorism, Resilience, Intelligence and Organised Crime (CENTRIC).

Our students also work on live projects with businesses as part of their course, so there are plenty of opportunities to collaborate and set projects with industry, from Sheffield’s many IT firms to the biggest names in computing. It’s not just the students who’ll be building networks and furnishing their CVs.
