Join us to make a difference.

About the role:

You will work as part of our Digital Engagement Services Team supporting the Digital Engagement Services Manager.

The role involves working with colleagues across council services, IT teams, customers and external suppliers, with some travel to other work locations within Argyll and Bute and beyond.

You will help develop, maintain and support customer facing  applications and integrations, provide support, and design and develop systems to meet business and customer  needs. You will also monitor system performance, carry out planned maintenance, resolve technical issues, support customer-facing voice and data systems, complete acceptance testing and maintain clear technical documentation.

You will contribute technical expertise to colleagues in the DEST, projects and service improvements, help manage relationships with third-party suppliers and ensure systems are reliable, secure and easy to use. You will help to set the priorities and direction of the team and your work will help colleagues across the council deliver effective services to customers throughout Argyll and Bute.

About you:

You should have an

HND in Computing at SCQF Level 8, or an equivalent computer-related qualification, together with significant experience in a relevant IT technical role. You will also need experience of configuring, installing, deploying and supporting applications, working in a customer-focused environment and delivering IT solutions using a recognised project management approach.

You should have strong technical knowledge, good problem-solving and organisational skills, and the ability to produce clear technical documentation, reports, diagrams and user guidance. You should be comfortable working with customers and colleagues, managing competing priorities and communicating technical information clearly.

Experience of SQL, application or web development, structured programming, XML, PHP, JSP, ASP, JavaScript, AJAX or Oracle applications would be beneficial.

You must be able to travel efficiently and effectively between different work locations to meet the operational requirements of the service.

Our employees make good things happen in the day-to-day life and for the longer term future of Argyll and Bute. We want you to feel valued working for us. We offer various benefits to support you, such as a competitive salary, pension scheme, generous leave entitlement, cycle to work scheme, discounts on gym memberships and leisure centres, wellbeing initiatives, and opportunities for learning and career growth. We also embrace a modern approach to work, offering a flexible first approach where possible to requests from our employees to how they work.

This role also provides an opportunity to work across a varied portfolio of applications and technologies while contributing directly to improvements in council services. You will have opportunities to develop your technical and project experience, work with colleagues and suppliers across a range of services, and help shape reliable, secure and customer-focused digital solutions.
