Summary
Employee Relations / HR Officer
Contract: Interim, until March 2027
Rate: Up to £25 per hour
Sector: Local Government / Public Sector
We are supporting a local authority with the appointment of an experienced Employee Relations / HR Officer to provide additional capacity within their HR team and assist with a backlog of employee relations casework.
This is a hands-on role requiring someone who is confident managing a varied ER caseload and can quickly pick up existing cases, progress them effectively and provide pragmatic HR advice to managers.
Key Responsibilities
You will manage and support a range of employee relations cases from initial stages through to resolution, including:
- Sickness absence and attendance management
- Conduct and disciplinary cases
- Grievances
- Performance and capability matters
- Providing advice and guidance to managers on HR policies and procedures
- Supporting formal meetings and hearings where required
- Ensuring cases are progressed appropriately and accurate records and documentation are maintained
- Working through existing casework to help the organisation reduce its current backlog
About You
To be considered, you will need:
- Previous public sector experience, ideally within a local authority or similarly complex organisation
- Strong, hands-on employee relations casework experience
- Experience handling cases relating to sickness, conduct, disciplinary, grievance and performance
- Confidence advising and supporting managers through formal HR processes
- The ability to manage a busy caseload and work with minimal supervision
- Strong organisation and communication skills
- Immediate or very short-notice availability
