Job overview

We’re looking for a Nuclear Engagement Officer to lead a Nuclear Industry Benevolent Fund (NIBF) funded project to raise awareness of the nuclear sector and the opportunities it presents, increasing the availability of skills to the industry and enhancing participation from hard-to-reach communities. Key elements of your job will be to:

  • develop a strategy for engagement with young people in the nuclear domain
  • create captivating nuclear-themed engagement activities
  • deliver nuclear engagement across the North West

About you

To be a suitable candidate for this position, you will have:

  • a passion for working with young people
  • a background in science, technology or engineering
  • experience of designing and delivering public engagement, outreach or widening participation activities
  • a creative flair for producing engaging activities to inspire young people

The School of Engineering

As Nuclear Engagement Officer, you will be part of the School of Engineering, which is a broad-based engineering centre, with a record of innovative teaching, world-class research and strong links with industry. Lancaster offers undergraduate Nuclear Engineering programmes spanning both fission and fusion technologies, placing it among the small number of UK universities offering dedicated undergraduate provision in this field. The School hosts the Nuclear Science and Engineering Research Theme, with expertise across new build, fuel cycle development, decommissioning and clean-up, waste management, safeguards and security. The School already contributes to a range of public engagement and outreach activities and now wants to develop a dedicated nuclear engagement programme to raise awareness of the sector and inspire the next generation.
