Summary

The University of Hertfordshire’s new Medical School launched in September 2026 as part of the School of Health, Medicine and Life Sciences. We are seeking an experienced MBBS Head of Assessment to shape and lead the assessment function as the Medical School develops. The postholder will oversee the assessment framework across the five-year MBBS programme, with direct responsibility for assessment delivery in Years 1 and 2.

Main duties and responsibilities

The postholder will lead assessment strategy, governance and quality assurance in line with GMC requirements, including blueprinting, standard setting and psychometric analysis. They will oversee formative and summative assessments and chair question-writing, review and standard-setting groups. For Years 1 and 2, they will act as Chief and Principal Examiner, including responsibility for moderation and OSCE oversight. They will work with the examinations team to analyse student performance and collaborate with external examiners and regulatory stakeholders. They will also guide, mentor and develop assessment staff to drive continuous improvement.
