Support Worker – Respite Care – £13.12 per hour – Barnsley, S75 3NP

The Role

Making Space is looking for a caring and reliable Support Worker to join our friendly team at Silver Street Respite Service in Barnsley.

Our service provides planned and emergency short-term respite care for adults with learning disabilities and physical health needs. You'll help people feel comfortable, supported and independent during their stay, making sure their individual needs and preferences are always respected.

With 35-hour and 21-hour permanent contracts available, this is a great opportunity to join a supportive team where your experience and kindness really matter.

Key Responsibilities

Provide person-centred care tailored to each individual's needs.

Support with personal care, medication and daily routines.

Prepare meals and assist with cooking and household tasks.

Encourage independence, choice and participation in activities.

Create a safe, welcoming and positive environment.

Work closely with colleagues to deliver consistent, high-quality care.

What We're Looking For

Previous experience in health and social care is essential.

A caring, patient and understanding approach.

Confidence supporting adults with learning disabilities and physical needs.

Good communication skills and a reliable, flexible attitude.

Willingness to work shifts, including alternate weekends.

What We Offer

£13.12 per hour

Permanent contracts – 35 or 21 hours per week.

Shifts: 7am–2pm or 2pm–9pm, including alternate weekends.

Up to 28 days' holiday, including bank holidays (pro rata).

Double pay on Christmas Day, Boxing Day and New Year's Day.
