Summary

Job Advert

Nottingham Playhouse is seeking a skilled, adaptable and enthusiastic Board Operator and Relighter to join the Production Department for the 2027 remount and UK & Ireland tour of PUNCH.

Joining the Production prior to the beginning of technical rehearsals, this role will lead the Lighting team, under the direction of the Lighting Designer and the Production Electrician once the show is on tour.  This role will support the smooth day-to-day running of lighting operations on the show and ensure creative continuity from the lighting department across the tour. Responsibilities will include operating the lighting board during shows, ensuring that LX kit is properly maintained during the tour, and ensuring that Robbie Butler’s lighting design is delivered to the highest standard at tour venues.

This is a role for an experienced operator with proven experience of recreating lighting to a high standard on tour.  The role will predominantly involve evening and performance-based work.

About the role

Reporting to the Director of Producing, General Manager, Production Manager and Company Stage Manager, you will lead the touring lighting team at Nottingham Playhouse and throughout the tour.

You will operate the lighting for performances, recreate the lighting design at each venue and help maintain the creative integrity of the production. Working closely with the Lighting Designer, Programmer and Production Electrician, you will support the preparation, fit-up and technical rehearsals at Nottingham Playhouse before the production tours.

You will also oversee the smooth running of the lighting department, maintain equipment and show paperwork, and support the development of the LX2 / Follow Spot Operator and Tech Swing to ensure effective cover across the team.

About you

You will have experience in a leading lighting department role within a producing theatre or production of a similar scale, alongside experience of touring productions and recreating lighting designs across multiple venues.

You will bring excellent organisational and communication skills, strong attention to detail and the confidence to make decisions, delegate tasks and take the lead when required. A positive, professional and collaborative approach is essential, as is the flexibility to work evening and weekend performances and other unsociable hours.

We are looking for someone who is motivated, enthusiastic and enjoys working with performing companies, with a commitment to maintaining high technical and creative standards throughout the tour.
