‘Together, Let’s Be Extraordinary’

Our Organisation

Part of East Lancashire Learning Group, Accrington and Rossendale College has a proud history of delivering high quality vocational courses and technical training, apprenticeships and higher education provision to the communities that we serve. We excel in providing people with a platform to progress into fantastic employment opportunities with rewarding careers prospects.

The Exciting Role

A new and exciting opportunity has become available as a Lecturer in English - to join our high achieving English and Maths Division.

Are you passionate about inspiring the next generation? Do you have a flair for making complex concepts accessible and engaging? If so, we want

YOU!

We are looking for enthusiastic and dedicated English Lecturers to join our dynamic teaching team. This is an exciting opportunity to make a real difference in the lives of students and help them unlock their potential in the world of English Language.

You will be part of a highly successful team of dedicated English staff delivering GCSE English Language and Functional Skills English at Accrington and Rossendale College along with inspiring your students to achieve their best.

East Lancashire Learning Group is 'Powered by Maths and English'. Part of our core strategic intent is to ensure that our learners are English and maths enabled and subsequently there is whole college approach to – and ownership of – English and maths. All English teachers are well-qualified and have expert knowledge of the subject and we also continue to invest in teachers' ongoing professional development. You will be joining a team of dedicated, innovative and highly-successful subject-experts who achieve remarkable things - students who resit their GCSEs at the college are more than twice as likely to achieve Grade 4-9 than the National Average.

In particular, the English division aims to:

  • Provide a highly ambitious curriculum which inspires students to achieve their very best and which supports them to aim high and reach the extraordinary.
  • Ensure a high-quality English provision with excellent teaching, learning and assessment.
  • Support students to achieve excellent outcomes in English, supporting them to progress onto their next steps.

The successful candidate will be primarily based at Accrington and Rossendale campus but may be required to travel across sites.

This post would suit an experienced practitioner – with sufficient experience in teaching GCSE English specifically – who is looking for their next challenge and to make their mark within an Outstanding organisation.

Depending on your previous experience additional incentives may be available as follows:

  • a £2500 ‘golden hello’ payment (if you aren't otherwise eligible for government incentive schemes),

What You Will Be Doing:

You’ll be involved in every aspect of course planning, including developing schemes of work, lesson plans, and teaching resources, all while building strong relationships with your learners. Your efforts will contribute to improving student retention, attendance, and success rates, and you’ll play a key role in shaping the curriculum to best meet students’ needs.

What We Are Looking For:

  • Experience of teaching GCSE English within a Further Education, Sixth Form or Secondary setting
  • Experience of teaching Functional Skills English is also desirable – but not essential
  • Teaching qualification
  • Degree in English or associated subject - or alternative degree with A Level English
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Passion for the subject and ability to inspire and motivate

What We Offer in Return:

  • Eligibility to join the Teachers’ Pension Scheme
  • Generous annual leave allowance including a two-week closure over the Christmas period
  • Enhanced occupational sick pay scheme and access to family friendly policies and benefits
  • A range of health and wellbeing benefits and support
  • Staff recognition scheme, including long service award
  • Free on-site parking on all College sites
