Mechanical Design Engineer – Defence
Location: Huddersfield, West Yorkshire

Hours: 37.5 hours per week, Monday to Friday

Morson Edge is recruiting for a Mechanical Design Engineer to join an established defence engineering business in Huddersfield.
This is an opportunity to work on technically challenging mechanical engineering projects, designing high-integrity gearboxes, geared transmission systems and associated components for demanding defence applications.
Key Responsibilities
•
Design and develop mechanical transmission systems, gearboxes and precision-engineered components.
•
Produce detailed 2D and 3D CAD models, manufacturing drawings and assembly documentation.
•
Develop new designs and adapt existing products for specialist applications.
•
Design supporting equipment, including couplings, lubrication systems and gearbox test equipment.
•
Interpret technical specifications, engineering standards and geometric tolerances.
•
Produce bills of materials, technical documentation and engineering change records.
•
Collaborate with manufacturing, production engineering, supply chain and analysis teams.
•
Support design reviews, DFMEA, PFMEA and continuous improvement activities.
Skills & Experience
•
Mechanical design engineering experience within a precision engineering, heavy engineering or similar environment.
•
Strong 3D CAD capability, ideally using Solid Edge.
•
Experience producing detailed component and assembly drawings.
