The project involves leveraging cutting-edge Generative AI, Model Context Protocol (MCP), Microsoft 365, and Azure technologies to build a secure, scalable platform capable of discovering, analysing, and retrieving evidence from large volumes of SharePoint-hosted content.

Your new role

As a Lead AI Engineer, you will take ownership of the technical delivery of an AI-powered evidence discovery platform, working alongside a Junior Engineer and reporting directly to the Solution Owner. You will design and implement Model Context Protocol (MCP) Servers, develop SharePoint ingestion pipelines using Microsoft Graph APIs, and build Agentic AI workflows leveraging Azure OpenAI and Azure AI Search. The role will involve developing secure, permission-aware retrieval mechanisms, integrating hybrid vector and semantic search capabilities, and delivering production-ready solutions with robust CI/CD pipelines, testing frameworks, operational documentation, and ongoing technical mentorship.

What you'll need to succeed

  • Proven experience developing Model Context Protocol (MCP) servers and AI agent tooling.
  • Strong expertise in Azure OpenAI, Azure AI Search, Retrieval-Augmented Generation (RAG), prompt engineering, and hybrid search architectures.
  • Hands-on experience with SharePoint Online, Microsoft Graph API, metadata management, and document permission models.
  • Strong development skills in Python and/or C#/.NET, REST APIs, MCP SDKs, and document processing technologies.
  • Experience with Microsoft Azure services including Functions, Container Apps, Key Vault, and cloud-native architectures.
  • Solid understanding of Entra ID, OAuth/OIDC authentication, workload identities, and enterprise security best practices.
  • Experience implementing CI/CD pipelines, automated testing, structured logging, and operational support documentation.
  • Ability to lead technical work streams and mentor junior team members.

What you'll get in return

  • Opportunity to lead the development of a cutting-edge enterprise AI solution.
  • Exposure to the latest Microsoft AI, Azure, and MCP technologies.
  • Collaborative and innovative project environment.
  • Opportunity to work on a high-impact public sector programme.
  • Chance to shape AI-driven knowledge discovery and evidence retrieval capabilities at enterprise scale.
