Electrical & Mechanical Supervisor

Location: SwanseaEmployment Type: Full-time, PermanentRole: Electrical & Mechanical Supervisor

About the Role

We are looking for an experienced Electrical & Mechanical Supervisor to join our engineering team, supporting the delivery of mechanical and electrical maintenance services across a large and complex operational estate.

This is a key leadership role with responsibility for the day-to-day supervision of a multidisciplinary team of day and shift engineers. You will ensure engineering activities are effectively planned, prioritised and delivered safely, while maintaining high standards of technical compliance, workmanship and service delivery.

The confidence and leadership skills to manage an experienced engineering team in a demanding operational setting.

Key Responsibilities

As Electrical & Mechanical Supervisor, you will:

-Lead, supervise and support a multidisciplinary team of electrical and mechanical engineers operating across day and shift patterns.

-Plan, allocate and prioritise planned, reactive and corrective maintenance activities.

-Ensure appropriate engineering resources and competencies are available to meet operational requirements.

-Monitor maintenance performance, outstanding work orders and remedial actions, escalating risks where necessary.

-Provide technical guidance and support to engineers when investigating complex plant and equipment faults.

-Ensure maintenance activities are carried out safely and in accordance with relevant legislation, technical standards and site procedures.

-Support the management of safe systems of work, including permits, isolations and engineering risk controls.

-Coordinate plant shutdowns and intrusive maintenance activities to minimise disruption to site operations.

-Manage and coordinate specialist engineering contractors where required.

-Monitor engineering standards and quality, challenging incomplete work or poor workmanship where appropriate.

-Support statutory compliance activities and ensure appropriate maintenance records and documentation are maintained.

-Assist with technical investigations, incident reviews and root-cause analysis following significant plant failures.

-Identify recurring equipment issues and opportunities to improve asset reliability and maintenance performance.

-Carry out regular plant room and engineering workplace inspections.

-Support the performance, development and welfare of the engineering team.

-Promote a positive safety culture and consistently high standards of engineering discipline and housekeeping.

About You

To be successful in this role, you will need:

Essential

-Significant experience working within complex electrical and mechanical environments, ideally across a large commercial, industrial, government or critical estate.

-Previous experience supervising or managing a multidisciplinary engineering team

-Confidence managing teams operating across both day and shift working arrangements.

-Experience coordinating planned, reactive and corrective maintenance activities.

-A strong understanding of engineering safety, safe systems of work, permits and isolations.

-The ability to confidently prioritise workloads and manage competing operational demands.

-Strong problem-solving and fault-finding capabilities.

-The ability to provide clear technical direction to engineers and specialist contractors

Desirable Experience

We would particularly welcome candidates with experience in:

-High Voltage (HV) systems and associated safe systems of work.

-HV Authorised Person environments or working alongside HV Authorised Persons.

-Pressure Systems and PSSR requirements.

-Complex mechanical systems including boilers, pumps, chillers, HVAC and associated building services.

-Critical or business-essential engineering environments.

-Managing specialist engineering subcontractors.

Qualifications

You will ideally hold:

-A recognised electrical or mechanical engineering apprenticeship or equivalent.

-A relevant Level 3 electrical/mechanical engineering qualification or equivalent experience.

-Relevant health and safety training.

-Supervisory or management qualifications would be advantageous.

-HV and/or Pressure Systems training or Authorised Person experience would be advantageous.

What We're Looking For

This role would suit an experienced engineering supervisor who combines strong technical knowledge with confident people leadership.

You will be comfortable leading experienced engineers, setting clear priorities and maintaining high standards, while remaining calm and decisive when responding to equipment failures and operational pressures.

Above all, we are looking for someone who can create a well-controlled engineering environment where safety comes first, responsibilities are clear, technical standards are maintained and the engineering team is focused on delivering a reliable service.

Main changes: I've shifted the original description from an internal job specification into a more polished recruitment advert, strengthened the leadership message, and made the distinction between essential complex-site/team-management experience and desirable HV/Pressure Systems experience much clearer.
