Recruiting 1 night-focused Personal Care Assistant

Female-only occupational requirement

This role is restricted to female applicants because it involves intimate personal care and support in a private home. The restriction is intended to protect privacy and dignity and is applied as an occupational requirement under Schedule 9, Part 1 of the Equality Act 2010.

Essential requirements

About the role I am a female wheelchair user with multiple long-term disabilities, looking for a compassionate, calm, reliable and dedicated female Personal Care Assistant to support me in my own home and in the community. This is not an agency role. I will be your direct employer. The purpose of the role is to provide personalised support that enables me to live my life as independently as possible - essentially helping with the things I would do myself if I were not disabled. My needs fluctuate, so I need someone who can follow my direction, adapt calmly and respect that I know my own body and care needs. I want a professional but friendly working relationship. You will be spending time with me in my home and out in the community, so personality fit matters alongside reliability and practical ability. What the role can involve • Personal care, including support with hygiene, grooming, dressing and other activities of daily living. • Medication support in accordance with my care arrangements and training. • Manual handling and physical assistance, following appropriate training and my individual care requirements. • Meal preparation and practical support around the home, including housekeeping, laundry and shopping. • Support with admin, appointments, education and day-to-day organisation when needed. • Supporting me to go out and participate in ordinary life, including shopping, art, music, days out and other activities. • Providing calm, appropriate support during seizures and periods when my pain, fatigue, movement, communication or processing may fluctuate. • Supporting my independence rather than automatically taking over tasks I can or want to do myself. • Helping with my Golden Retriever, including feeding, toileting, walking and general engagement where required. The person I am looking for • Calm and emotionally steady, including around seizures and changing symptoms. • Reliable, responsible and genuinely committed to punctuality and attendance. Because this role forms part of a 24-hour care arrangement, late cancellations and unexplained absences can create a significant gap in my care. • Able to take direction from me and follow my individual care routines rather than assuming that previous care experience means every person should be supported in the same way. • Patient and clear in communication, including when I need additional processing time or my communication is affected by fatigue, pain or seizures. • Respectful of confidentiality, privacy, personal boundaries and the fact that you are working in my home. • Observant and proactive without being overbearing - able to notice when I need help while still promoting my autonomy. • Comfortable with personal care and the practical realities of supporting a wheelchair user. • Comfortable with a large dog and happy to be involved with her care. Hands-on experience with dogs is helpful. • Care experience is preferred but attitude, reliability, willingness to learn and ability to follow my individual needs are extremely important. • A Care Certificate and First Aid certificate would be beneficial but are not essential. • A driving licence and access to a car are highly desirable. • A good level of spoken and written English is required for safe communication, care instructions and record keeping. • A DBS check and right-to-work check will be required before employment begins. I can arrange a DBS check if needed. Availability and communication • Please apply only if your regular availability genuinely matches the core shift pattern described in this advert. • I understand that people's circumstances can change. If your regular availability changes substantially after you start, I need this to be communicated promptly so that I can plan safe and reliable care cover. • Additional shifts outside the main pattern may sometimes be offered, including cover for colleagues, but these are not guaranteed and will depend on care requirements and your availability. • The position is offered on a zero-hours basis. There is currently regular work available and the shift pattern below reflects the hours I genuinely expect to offer, although minimum hours are not contractually guaranteed. Pay and employment details • Pay: £12.71 per hour. • Location: In person, Liverpool/crosby • Casual dress and free/on-site parking. • Statutory employment rights apply, including statutory holiday entitlement and any statutory sick pay entitlement for which you qualify. • This is a private household and I cannot provide visa sponsorship. Applicants must already have the right to work in the UK. ** Please note that this position is primarily for candidates who can reliably commute to or live within the Crosby area. However, for the first few months (approximately), this role will be based in South Liverpool, Wavertree** How to apply Please apply through Indeed with your CV. In your application, clearly state your regular availability and any recurring restrictions that would affect the core shift pattern in this advert. Please do not describe yourself as 'fully flexible' unless that accurately reflects your normal availability.
