Summary

We are recruiting for a Finance Analyst  - Costing Developmental Post offering an opportunity for an existing colleague to develop specialist financial, analytical and technical skills through a structured development pathway towards Band 6.

This is a new developmental role within the Trust’s Financial Planning & Costing team, designed for someone who has completed their AAT qualification or equivalent, has experience of working within Finance, and demonstrates strong analytical ability, an interest in working with data and a genuine enthusiasm for developing new skills.

Previous specialist costing experience or advanced technical skills are not essential. We are looking for someone who is curious, motivated, has good attention to detail, enjoys problem-solving and is keen to build on their existing finance knowledge.

At the heart of everything we do are our core values: Include, Respect, and Improve. We encourage you to embrace these values throughout the recruitment process and in your role with us.

The successful candidate will join a small, supportive team and gain practical experience in NHS costing, Service Line Reporting (SLR), Patient Level Information and Costing Systems (PLICS), data analysis, financial reporting, income and activity recording. The role will also provide opportunities to develop technical skills in Excel, SQL and Power BI.

This opportunity is open to internal applicants only who have previous experience of working within Finance and have completed an AAT qualification or equivalent. Appointment will be at Band 5, with progression to Band 6 subject to successfully demonstrating the required competencies through the agreed development programme. Please refer to the Development Plan – Candidate’s Guide for further details.

Reporting to the Costing Finance Manager, you will support the preparation, analysis and presentation of the Trust’s Service Line Reporting and Patient Level Costing information. As your knowledge and experience develop, you will contribute to improvements in costing methodologies, support changes to reporting requirements, and help identify productivity and efficiency opportunities that inform the Trust’s decision-making.

Building on your existing finance and accounting knowledge, you will develop the skills to collect, validate and analyse complex financial and activity data, identify data quality issues and contribute to improving the processes and methodologies used to produce accurate and meaningful costing information.

This is an opportunity for a motivated Finance colleague to develop specialist skills, take on increasing responsibility and progress towards an independent Finance Analyst role, while contributing to the Trust’s ambition to deliver the best possible care for our patients.

At East and North Hertfordshire Teaching NHS Trust, we are proud of the range of general and specialist services we provide and our 6,000 or so dedicated staff ensure our patients get the best care. Our ability to be flexible and innovative in the way in which we work and deliver our services to our catchment has never been more important than it is now.

We run the following hospitals:

We are committed to a positive work life balance for our employees.  This means that any employee is entitled to seek to work flexible working patterns and we are committed to listen and consider all requests. Such requests, of course, have to be made and considered formally, and will need to be balanced against service needs, but our starting point will always be to find ways to support making them happen.
