Summary
Perfect role for a mid professional looking to grow their Financial Services career in Southampton.
A growing investment firm based in Southampton is looking for an Investment Analyst to join its team as it scales. Financial Services businesses at this stage move quickly, decisions get made in days rather than months, and the analyst sitting across research, modelling and portfolio support genuinely shapes outcomes. This is a startup environment, so the Investment Analyst here will do far more than sit behind a spreadsheet.
Here's what you'll be doing:
Build and maintain financial models to support investment decisions across a range of asset classes
Research market trends, sectors and individual companies, then turn findings into clear written recommendations
Support due diligence on new opportunities, from initial screening through to final sign-off
Track portfolio performance and flag risks before they become problems
Prepare investment committee materials and present findings directly to senior decision-makers
Work closely with founders and senior analysts on strategy, given the flat structure here
Here are the skills you'll need:
Two to five years' experience in an investment analyst, equity research or related Financial Services role
Strong financial modelling skills in Excel, ideally with exposure to valuation methods (DCF, comparables, precedent transactions)
A relevant degree, and progress towards or completion of a professional qualification such as the CFA is a plus
Sharp written communication. You'll need to explain complex analysis to people who don't have time to read forty pages of it
Comfortable with ambiguity. Startups change direction, and this Investment Analyst role will change shape with the business
Commercial instinct. Numbers matter, but so does judgement
Key perks and benefits:
Salary of £45,000 to £59,000, depending on experience
Equity and stock options, so you share in the upside you help create
Flexible working hours around a core Southampton office base
Learning and development budget to support qualifications and courses
A genuinely flat structure where good ideas get heard regardless of title
Why pursue a career in Financial Services?
Financial Services rewards people who can think clearly under pressure and back their judgement with evidence. Southampton has quietly built a strong cluster of investment and advisory firms, and an Investment Analyst based here gets exposure to serious deal flow without the London cost of living. Progression tends to be quick for people who deliver, and the skills built in a role like this transfer well across the sector for years to come.
