Summary

Pupil Support Officer - Fixed term until 20/12/2027

Oaklands School

Salary: £30,188-£34,452 (pro-rata for part-time and sessional)

Hours: 30 per week, 39 weeks sessional

We are looking for a conscientious, committed and enthusiastic candidate with excellent interpersonal and communication skills to join the Oaklands team. You will be working as part of a supportive team, and there will be a range of training opportunities to support you in working with our children and young people. Experience of working with children, young people and families with learning disabilities and/or complex additional support needs is desirable, but not essential.

The Pupil Support Officer will work closely with the Senior PSO, with our children and young people, their families, school staff and partner agencies. We are looking for someone who is approachable, flexible, well organised and willing to learn, with the ability to build positive and trusting relationships with families.

An important part of the role will be providing practical support to families. This may include helping parents and carers to complete forms, access services and apply for relevant funding or support. Very good ICT skills are therefore essential, as the postholder will also be required to prepare documentation and take accurate minutes and notes at meetings.

This is a varied role, and flexibility is important. The successful candidate will be willing to support pupils within classes when required and to accompany pupils and staff on school trips, community activities and other learning experiences. There will also be some irregular weekend working to support family social events and activities involving the wider Oaklands community.

Above all, we are looking for someone who genuinely wants to make a difference to our Oaklands community: someone who will take the time to get to know our children, young people and families, listen to what matters to them and work positively and collaboratively with others to provide practical and meaningful support.

This post is regulated work with children and/or protected adults under the Protection of Vulnerable Groups (Scotland) Act 2007. The preferred candidate will be required to join the PVG Scheme or undergo a PVG Scheme update check. Where an individual has spent a continuous period of 3 months or more out with the UK in the last 5 years, an Overseas Criminal Record Check will be required. You will be required to provide this check. An unconditional offer of employment and commencement in the post will be subject to the outcome of both these pre-employment checks being deemed satisfactory.

We are committed to a diverse and inclusive workforce where everyone feels valued and able to be their best. We particularly encourage applications from women for senior roles, as well as people from minority ethnic backgrounds, people with disabilities or neurodivergent people, care experienced people, carers and LGBT+ people across all levels of the organisation, all of whom are currently underrepresented. All applicants will be considered fairly based on skills and experience. Disabled and care-experienced applicants who meet the minimum job criteria will be guaranteed an interview.
