Camfaud Concrete Pumps, the UK's largest concrete pump hire company, is looking for an experienced mechanic with strong mechanical knowledge, practical repair experience and a willingness to learn.
This is an exciting opportunity to build on your existing automotive experience and train in specialist areas including hydraulics, electrical diagnostics and specialist plant maintenance.
No previous plant fitting experience is required. We'll provide the training and support you need to develop your skills, work towards NVQ qualifications in Plant Maintenance and progress into a Plant Fitter role.
What We Offer
• Competitive salary, dependent on experience.
• Overtime paid at 1.5 times the normal hourly rate.
• 28 days' annual leave, including bank holidays.
• Company van following a successful training period.
• Auto-enrolment into our pension scheme.
• Benenden Private Healthcare Scheme.
• Life insurance.
• Training and ongoing professional development.
• Support to gain NVQ qualifications in Plant Maintenance.
• The opportunity to learn specialist engineering skills and build a long-term career.
• A friendly and supportive working environment.
The Role
Camfaud operates a large fleet of mobile concrete pumps, static plant, HGVs and other vehicles across the UK. Our specialist equipment requires regular servicing, maintenance and repair to ensure it remains safe, reliable and ready for operation.
Using your existing mechanical knowledge as a foundation, we'll support you in developing the additional skills required to maintain and repair our concrete pumps, plant equipment and associated machinery.
Working alongside our experienced team, you'll gain hands-on experience across a variety of mechanical, electrical and hydraulic systems, developing into a skilled Plant Fitter.
Training and Development
We'll provide training and support to help you develop your knowledge and practical skills in:
• Hydraulic Systems – understanding, diagnosing and repairing hydraulic equipment.
• Electrical Systems and Diagnostics – fault-finding across electrical systems, wiring and lighting.
• Specialist Plant Maintenance – servicing and repairing mobile concrete pumps and associated equipment.
• Mechanical Diagnostics and Repairs – building on your existing experience to diagnose and resolve increasingly complex faults.
• Plant and Equipment Maintenance – learning to maintain and repair specialist machinery in accordance with manufacturer specifications and company procedures.
• NVQ Qualifications in Plant Maintenance – we'll support you in working towards relevant NVQ qualifications to develop your technical skills and gain recognised industry qualifications.
As your skills and experience develop, you'll take on greater responsibility for maintaining and repairing our specialist fleet.
Key Responsibilities
• Carrying out routine servicing, inspections and maintenance.
• Diagnosing mechanical, electrical and hydraulic faults.
• Maintaining and repairing mobile concrete pumps, static plant and associated equipment as your skills develop.
• Learning to work on specialist equipment in accordance with manufacturer specifications and company procedures.
• Supporting breakdown repairs and attending customer sites when required.
• Following health and safety procedures and maintaining high standards of workshop housekeeping.
• Working collaboratively with colleagues to keep equipment safe, reliable and operational.
• Representing Camfaud Group professionally when dealing with colleagues, contractors and customers.
• Undertaking other reasonable duties as required by the Operations Manager or Service Manager.
What We're Looking For
We're interested in mechanics who have a solid foundation in automotive engineering and are keen to develop their skills beyond cars and light commercial vehicles.
You could be a great fit if you have:
• Previous experience as a Car Mechanic, Motor Vehicle Technician or Light Commercial Vehicle Mechanic.
• Good mechanical knowledge and practical repair experience.
• Experience diagnosing faults and carrying out mechanical repairs.
• An interest in learning about hydraulics, electrical systems and specialist plant.
• A methodical and conscientious approach to your work.
• A willingness to learn, undertake training and work towards further qualifications.
• The ability to work independently and as part of a team.
• A full UK driving licence.
Experience with plant, commercial vehicles or hydraulics would be advantageous but is not essential.
Most importantly, we're looking for someone with the right mechanical foundation, a positive attitude and the ambition to learn.
Working Hours
Our Cumbernauld depot workshop hours are:
• Monday to Friday: 07:00–17:00.
• Saturday: 07:00–13:00, if required as overtime paid at 1.5 times the normal hourly rate.
