Summary
Perfect role for a mid professional looking to grow their AgriTech career in London.
Food production has to change, and the companies building the technology behind that change need people who can actually ship it. This is an established AgriTech business with a large-scale footprint, the kind of place where precision farming tools, sensor networks and data platforms move from prototype into fields used by real growers. The Agricultural Technology Developer role sits right in the middle of that work.
You'll join a structured engineering team with clear frameworks already in place, not a scrappy startup making it up as it goes. That matters if you want your next few years to build toward something.
Here's what you'll be doing:
Build and maintain software for agricultural monitoring systems, from sensor data ingestion through to farmer-facing dashboards
Work with cross-functional teams (agronomists, data scientists, hardware engineers) to translate field requirements into working code
Develop and test integrations between IoT devices and central platforms, making sure data arrives clean and on time
Write and maintain automated tests, and review code from other developers on the team
Support the rollout of new features to production, including monitoring and fixing issues once they're live
Contribute to technical documentation so the wider team can build on your work
Here are the skills you'll need:
A few years' commercial experience as a software developer, ideally with some exposure to IoT, embedded systems or data-heavy platforms
Strong grounding in at least one modern language (Python, Java or C# are all common here)
Comfortable working with APIs, cloud infrastructure and relational databases
Able to explain a technical decision to someone who isn't technical. This comes up more than you'd think
Interest in agriculture or sustainability helps, though it's not a dealbreaker if the technical fit is strong
Good instincts for testing your own work before it reaches someone else's desk
Key perks and benefits:
Salary of £43,500 to £58,000, depending on experience
Hybrid working, with the London office set up for genuine collaboration rather than just meetings
Private medical and dental insurance
Enhanced pension scheme and performance-based bonuses
A full benefits package built for people who plan to stay, not just pass through
Why pursue a career in AgriTech?
Global food demand isn't slowing down, and the pressure on land, water and yield is only going one way. AgriTech is where engineering meets that problem directly, and London has become a genuine hub for it, with investment and talent both concentrated here. Get in as a mid-level developer now and there's a clear run toward senior and lead roles as the sector scales.
