Summary

Ambitious Account Director wanted to drive real impact in PR & Communications from Newcastle.

The North East's PR and communications scene has grown up. Agencies here now run national accounts, not just regional ones, and clients expect senior counsel that understands both the story and the commercial pressure behind it. This is an established SME with a track record of winning and keeping serious clients, and it needs an Account Director who can hold that line: strategic enough to sit across the table from a chief exec, hands-on enough to sharpen the copy at 6pm before a launch.

Here's what you'll be doing:

Leading a portfolio of client accounts as their primary strategic contact, from planning through to delivery

Building and pitching integrated PR & Communications strategies that tie back to client business goals, not just column inches

Managing and developing a small team of account managers and executives, reviewing their work and coaching them up

Handling crisis communications and sensitive media situations when they land, sometimes with no notice

Owning account financials, including forecasting, retainers and profitability, and reporting these upward

Identifying growth opportunities within existing accounts and supporting new business pitches

Here are the skills you'll need:

Several years' experience in a PR or communications agency, with at least some of that at account management level

Confident media relations skills and an existing network of journalist and broadcast contacts

Sharp writing. You should be able to turn a client's rambling brief into a tight, persuasive narrative

Commercial instincts. You understand budgets, margins and what makes an account profitable

People management experience, or a clear readiness to take it on

Calm under pressure. Client crises don't wait for a convenient moment

Key perks and benefits:

Salary of £45,000 to £65,000, plus bonus schemes

Hybrid working, with flexibility built around client and team needs

Private medical insurance and pension contribution

Generous annual leave and a genuinely flexible approach to work-life balance

Structured career development within a company that's growing, not standing still

Why pursue a career in PR & Communications?

PR & Communications has become one of the more resilient corners of the marketing world, and demand for people who can manage reputation properly keeps rising. Newcastle has quietly become a strong base for it, with agencies here servicing clients well beyond the region and salaries that reflect that reach. Few roles let you shape both strategy and story in the same week, and an Account Director sits right at that intersection.

This Account Director opportunity is brought to you by The Opportunity Hub UK.
