Summary
Perfect role for a mid professional looking to grow their Financial Services career in Sheffield.
A fast-growing financial services startup in Sheffield is building out its finance function from the ground up, and that's rarely a quiet job. Margins get scrutinised weekly. Forecasts shift as the business scales. This Business Financial Analyst role sits right at the centre of that, working alongside founders and department heads who need numbers they can actually act on, not reports that sit in a folder.
Here's what you'll be doing:
Build and maintain financial models that track performance against budget, flagging variances before they become problems
Partner with department leads across the business to translate spreadsheets into decisions they can make with confidence
Prepare monthly management accounts and commentary for the leadership team
Support pricing, unit economics and investment case analysis as the company scales
Own the rolling cash flow forecast and highlight risks early
Improve reporting processes as the business grows out of its startup spreadsheets
Here are the skills you'll need:
Solid grounding in financial analysis, ideally within Financial Services or a related field
Advanced Excel skills; comfort with financial modelling and scenario planning
Part-qualified or qualified accountant (ACA, ACCA, CIMA) or equivalent experience
Confidence presenting numbers to non-finance people without losing them halfway through
A genuinely curious mind. You'll be asking "why" as much as "what"
Comfortable operating with some ambiguity. Startups don't always have a playbook ready
Key perks and benefits:
Salary of £34,500 to £44,000, depending on experience
Hybrid working, split between the Sheffield office and home
Equity in the business, so you share in what you help build
Flexible hours and a genuinely remote-friendly culture when you need it
A dedicated learning and development budget to keep building your skills
Why pursue a career in Financial Services?
Financial services keeps reinventing itself, and Sheffield has quietly become one of the UK's stronger regional hubs for it, with a growing cluster of firms outside the usual London bubble. A Business Financial Analyst who can read a business as well as a balance sheet will always be in demand. Few sectors reward sharp thinking and good judgement quite as consistently.
