Summary
Join a startup Property & Construction company as a Property Surveyor in Birmingham.
Birmingham's skyline is changing fast, and the firms driving that change need surveyors who can move quickly and think for themselves. This is a young Property & Construction business, built on flat decision-making and a genuine appetite for doing things differently. They need a Property Surveyor who wants more ownership than a traditional firm would ever hand over this early in a career.
Here's what you'll be doing:
Carrying out building surveys, condition reports and measured surveys across a mixed portfolio of commercial and residential sites in Birmingham and the wider West Midlands
Advising clients on defects, dilapidations and maintenance planning, then writing up findings in clear, actionable reports
Supporting valuations and due diligence work on acquisitions, using your judgement where the data alone won't give a straight answer
Liaising directly with contractors, architects and clients, often without a layer of management in between
Helping shape internal processes as the company grows, since nothing here is fixed in stone yet
Keeping on top of building regulations, RICS standards and local planning requirements across the region
Here are the skills you'll need:
A relevant surveying qualification (RICS accreditation or working towards APC) plus a few years of hands-on experience
Solid technical knowledge of building pathology, construction methods and property law basics
Confidence writing reports that non-technical clients can actually understand
Comfort with ambiguity. Startups don't hand you a manual for every situation
Strong organisational skills, since you'll be managing your own diary and site visits across Birmingham
A full UK driving licence, given the travel this role involves
Key perks and benefits:
£31,500 to £47,500, depending on experience
Equity in the business, not just a payslip
Hybrid working, with time split between site visits, the Birmingham office and home
Flexible hours that fit around survey schedules rather than a rigid 9 to 5
A learning and development budget to fund further RICS training or CPD
Why pursue a career in Property & Construction?
Property & Construction in the UK is under real pressure to build more, faster, and to a higher standard, and Birmingham sits right in the middle of that demand. A good Property Surveyor becomes indispensable fast, because so much of the risk in a deal or a build comes down to what you find (or miss) on site. Progression tends to come quickly for people who are thorough and can communicate what they've found.
