Summary

Make your mark as a Building Consultancy Surveyor in the Property & Construction sector, based in Bristol.

Bristol's built environment is changing fast. Commercial landlords need condition surveys before they lease, developers need dilapidations advice before they build, and a lean building consultancy operating in this space has to move quicker than the bigger firms it competes against. This is a startup with a flat structure and a genuine appetite for growth, and it's looking for a Building Consultancy Surveyor who wants real input into how the business runs, not just a caseload.

Here's what you'll be doing:

Carry out building surveys, condition reports and schedules of dilapidations across a mixed commercial and residential portfolio in Bristol and the wider South West

Advise clients on defect diagnosis, repair strategies and maintenance planning

Manage contract administration on refurbishment and fit-out projects, including valuations and certification

Produce clear, well-argued technical reports that clients without a surveying background can actually understand

Liaise directly with landlords, tenants, contractors and solicitors, often without a partner sitting between you and the client

Support business development by spotting opportunities within existing client relationships

Here are the skills you'll need:

A degree in Building Surveying (or a related built environment discipline) and progress towards, or completion of, MRICS

A few years' post-qualification experience in building consultancy, ideally within Property & Construction

Working knowledge of building pathology, construction contracts and dilapidations legislation

Confident report writing. You'll need to translate technical findings into plain English

Comfortable managing your own workload with minimal oversight. This is a flat organisation, so nobody is going to hover

A full UK driving licence, since site visits across Bristol and the region are a core part of the job

Key perks and benefits:

£35,500 to £45,000, depending on experience

Hybrid working, with flexibility around when you're in the office versus on site

Equity in the business. If it grows, you grow with it

Flexible hours built around client and site commitments rather than a fixed clock-in time

A dedicated learning and development budget to fund APC support, CPD courses or further qualifications

Why pursue a career in Property & Construction?

Property & Construction rewards people who can combine technical judgement with straight-talking client management, and demand for that combination isn't slowing down. Bristol in particular has a strong pipeline of commercial and residential development, which means steady, varied work for a Building Consultancy Surveyor who wants to build a career rather than just fill a role. Progression here isn't bound by seniority tiers either. In a startup this size, you shape what comes next.
