Derbyshire County Council – Supporting Inclusive Education Across the County

Derbyshire County Council is seeking a committed and detail-oriented

SENDAR Officer to join our expanding Special Educational Needs and Disabilities Assessment and Review service. This vital role supports the delivery of high-quality statutory services for children and young people with complex SEND, ensuring their needs are met through effective coordination and casework.

About the Team

You will be part of Derbyshire's

SEND Assessment and Review (SENDAR) Service, working within one of our specialist teams supporting children and young people with SEND across the county.

Our teams include:

  • Amber Valley Locality Team
  • Bolsover & North East Derbyshire Locality Team
  • Chesterfield Locality Team
  • Erewash Locality Team
  • High Peak & North Dales Locality Team
  • South Derbyshire & South Dales Locality Team
  • Education, Access and Inclusion Team
  • Dispute Resolution

The successful candidate may be appointed to one of these teams based on service requirements and experience.

Working collaboratively with families, educational settings, partner agencies and colleagues across Children's Services, you will contribute to high-quality statutory SEND processes, promote inclusive practice and help ensure children and young people receive the right support at the right time.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Coordinate and manage casework, including Annual Reviews and Phase Transfers
  • Ensure statutory processes and timescales are met
  • Liaise with families and professionals to support positive outcomes
  • Maintain accurate records and contribute to budget-aware planning
  • Provide high-quality administrative and professional support
  • Ensure children, young people, and families remain at the heart of all decision-making

About You

You’ll have a sound understanding of SEND legislation and the SEND Code of Practice, along with experience in a customer-facing or service-user environment. You’ll be confident working under pressure, managing competing priorities, and communicating clearly and respectfully with a wide range of stakeholders.

This role does not include line management or direct budget responsibility but requires strong organisational skills and budget awareness.

Why Join Derbyshire?

This is an opportunity to make a meaningful impact in a forward-thinking council that values inclusion, collaboration, and continuous improvement.

We offer:

  • Local Government Pension Scheme
  • Flexible working arrangements
  • Generous annual leave entitlement
  • Travel expense reimbursement
  • Derbyshire Rewards – discounts at major retailers
  • Free parking at most sites
  • Wellbeing support including counselling and physiotherapy
  • Inclusive employee networks

Join us and help shape the future of SEND provision in Derbyshire.

Please add onto your application the bases you would like to be considered for.
