Specialist Technician

ROLE DESCRIPTION

We are seeking a reliable and proactive General Technician

to support the effective operation of our Construction and Automotive provision.

Working flexibly across all curriculum areas, you will prepare workshops, materials, tools, and equipment for practical learning; maintain equipment and stock records; complete routine checks and minor repairs; and report faults, damage or health and safety concerns. You will also help ensure that workshops remain safe, clean, organised, and ready for use. These duties reflect the technical, workshop and equipment responsibilities within the existing job description.

A key part of the role will be providing a visible presence across the department, supporting staff with learner behaviour management, and reinforcing high standards of conduct, punctuality, safety and respect. You will challenge inappropriate behaviour professionally, report concerns and help maintain a positive learning environment.

The postholder will also undertake agreed key-holder responsibilities (with additional responsibility payment)

, including opening and securing designated buildings, workshops and external areas, completing appropriate security checks and reporting premises or security concerns.

We are looking for someone who is practical, organised, and confident working with young people. You will need relevant technical or industry experience, a good understanding of workshop health and safety, excellent communication skills, and the ability to work calmly and consistently when addressing learner behaviour.

Experience within Construction, Automotive, engineering, facilities, site operations, or an educational environment would be advantageous.

The successful candidate will be committed to safeguarding, equality and diversity, health and safety, and the professional standards expected across the college
