Summary

We are looking to expand our amazing kitchen team and require a Kitchen Porter/Assistant. Very few jobs have such an impact on people’s lives and as a member of the staff team at Stewton House, you will be a core component to support the lives of our residents. As an employee with us, you will receive full training and be supported to further develop your skills and abilities.

The kitchen porter and relief/support cook will be a member of the home’s kitchen team and will be required to work in close cooperation with the Cook when on duty, to provide high standards of cleanliness within the kitchen and food service areas, and to assist with the wellbeing of residents by helping on occasions to prepare nutritional and diet adapted meals. The job can be physically tiring and requires long periods of time on your feet.

The post holder is responsible for maintaining a high standard of cleanliness and hygiene in the food service areas and dining room, taking into consideration COSHH policy requirements, as well as ensuring all areas are kept clean, tidy; with all equipment safely stored.

In addition to regular kitchen porter duties, the role will also involve occasional assistance and cover for the cooks in times of holiday/absence; which involves preparing, cooking and serving hot and cold meals and baking as required, taking into account preferences and special dietary requirements.

Kitchen Porter hours are 9.00 am to 7.00 pm, meaning a 10 hour shift each worked day (less breaks). (NB - whilst covering cook duties, hours are between 7.30 am and 5.30 pm). The post holder will be required to work 3 days per week, (on rota over the seven days within a week) – including weekends and bank holidays. There can also be the availability of overtime to cover holidays and sickness when required.

All new staff at Stewton House are subject to a minimum of 12-week probation period. During this time an introduction programme will be completed, including mandatory training, supervision support and competency checks. Ongoing support, appraisals and supervisions are provided for all staff thereafter.
