An alternative education provider in Cambridge needs Education Mentors to support young people aged 5 to 18 who are not in school. Each mentor works one-to-one with a small caseload of pupils – many have autism, ADHD or anxiety, or are in care – planning activities such as football, cooking, bushcraft and work experience alongside basic English and maths. Mentors cover Cambridge and the surrounding villages and drive pupils to sessions. Full-time or part-time, up to 30 hours a week in term time, with travel time paid and fuel reimbursed.

About the Provider

The provider works with local authorities to support young people aged 5 to 18 who are missing education, including pupils with SEND (autism, ADHD, PDA), young people in care and those who are anxious about, or have been excluded from, school. Work is one-to-one and happens wherever the pupil is most comfortable: at home, out in the community or at a learning centre.

The Role

- Build a trusting relationship with each pupil and agree goals together

- Bring pupils to group specialist sessions such as football, woodwork and PSHE

- Support pupils through online vocational courses and work experience

- Follow risk assessments and safeguarding procedures on every session

- Keep families, schools and the area manager updated on progress

- Attend transition meetings when a pupil is ready to return to education

What You'll Need

- A full UK driving licence and access to your own car with business insurance

- A background in youth work, sports coaching, residential care, mentoring or alternative provision

- Hobbies or skills you can share – sport, music, cooking, art, the outdoors

- The ability to stay calm and consistent with young people who find trust hard

- Flexible availability across Monday to Friday, up to 30 hours a week

- Safeguarding training and an induction are provided before you start

We're looking for dependable, warm mentors who keep showing up for a young person, even on difficult days.
