BEAR Scotland is a leading provider of highway maintenance services across Scotland. We manage and maintain over 2,000km of Scotland’s trunk road network, tackling just about every imaginable task and working round the clock to help keep Scotland moving.

The Northwest Trunk Road Unit spans some 1,422km of trunk road through some of the most scenic parts of the country. It covers a huge area of Scotland, from Thurso and Wick in the very north of the Highlands down to Campbeltown in Argyll and Bute, from Uig on Skye to Perth and Stirling.

We have vacancies for Road Asset Inspectors to join our existing operations team in the Northwest team, based out of our Inverness or Perth Depot. The successful candidates will play a key role in maintaining the safety of Scotland’s trunk road network by identifying, recording, and reporting defects that could pose a risk to road users.

Carry out minor repairs during inspections where it is safe and appropriate to do so.

Conduct monthly night-time inspections of illuminated road assets.

Undertake six-monthly inspections of reflective road assets.

Carry out walked condition inspections to assess the condition of road assets and identify defects requiring planned maintenance.

Validate and update asset inventory information within Transport Scotland’s Asset Management Performance System.

Ensure inspection records are accurate, complete, and submitted within required timescales.

Travel throughout the Northwest Trunk Road Unit as required to undertake inspections and asset condition surveys.

Occasionally stay overnight when required to support operational needs.

Full UK driving licence.

Excellent attention to detail and a commitment to maintaining high standards.

Good IT skills and confidence using digital systems and software.

Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
