We are looking for a SEND Outreach Tutor to work with children and young people in and around Bar Hill, Cambridgeshire, on an ongoing temporary basis from ASAP. Your learners have special educational needs and are not currently attending school full time, so you will meet them one-to-one at home, in community venues or at a local learning hub. Sessions focus on English and maths, including Functional Skills, and run for 5–6 hours a day, Monday to Friday.
What the Work Involves
Each learner has an individual plan, and a coordinator shares background information and resources with you before you start. The aim is steady progress in literacy and numeracy, and a regular routine that helps learners re-engage with education.
Key Duties
- Running structured one-to-one English and maths sessions, pitched at each learner's level
- Using Functional Skills resources where learners are ready for accreditation
- Getting to know each learner's interests and using them to plan sessions
- Writing brief notes after every session and sharing progress with the coordinator
- Reporting any safeguarding concerns the same day
What You'll Bring
- Experience as a tutor, TA, HLTA, learning mentor or teacher working with learners with SEND
- Confidence teaching English and maths from Entry Level to Level 2
- A full UK driving licence and access to a car for travel between sessions
- Good organisation and the ability to work on your own
You'll be patient, positive and reliable, and good at building rapport with young people who need a fresh start.
