Essential: QTS or QTLS
A small specialist school in Market Rasen, Lincolnshire is looking for a qualified SEN teacher to take on English and maths, on a temp-to-perm basis. You will teach Functional Skills to a very small group of KS4 and post-16 learners, mostly working at Entry Level 1 and 2, who have struggled in a traditional classroom. Lessons are practical and tied to each learner's interests and vocational plans, and schemes of work and online platforms are already provided. The job is term-time only, following the Lincolnshire County school holiday calendar, starting from 9 November 2026.
About the School
A small rural specialist provision within a wider group of SEND schools. It is growing its KS4 and post-16 cohort, groups are very small, and some learners spend part of the week on vocational placements such as mechanics.
What You'll Be Doing
- Planning and teaching English and maths Functional Skills from Entry Level 1
- Linking literacy and numeracy to real tasks and learners' vocational interests
- Giving learners with a PDA presentation choice and using low-demand language
- Tracking progress and preparing learners for accredited qualifications
- Helping the headteacher develop the curriculum as the school grows
What You'll Need
- QTS or QTLS
- Experience in SEN, alternative provision, FE or post-16 settings
- Experience teaching literacy and numeracy to learners working well below their age
- Adaptable teaching practice; subject specialism is not essential
You'll be patient, steady and dedicated, and good at building trust with young people who have had a difficult time at school.
