We are a growing, technology-led consumer claims group managing high-volume processes through modern software, automation, data and AI-enabled workflows. We are seeking a Senior AWS Cloud & DevOps Engineer to build, secure, automate and operate the cloud platforms supporting our applications and services.

## The Role

This senior, hands-on role combines AWS expertise with a DevOps mindset. Working with Software Engineers and technology leadership, you will own cloud infrastructure, deployment automation, reliability, observability and resilience. You will reduce manual work, strengthen security, optimise costs and enable faster, safer delivery.

## Responsibilities

**AWS Cloud & Platform Operations**

- Design, build and maintain secure, scalable and resilient AWS environments.

- Manage production availability, performance, networking, IAM, compute, storage and databases.

- Implement high availability, backup, disaster recovery and business continuity measures.

- Investigate and resolve complex cloud and production incidents.

**Infrastructure as Code & Automation**

- Manage repeatable, version-controlled infrastructure using Terraform, CloudFormation, CDK or similar tools.

- Automate provisioning, configuration, deployments and routine operations.

- Standardise development, test and production environments.

**CI/CD & Software Delivery**

- Build and improve CI/CD pipelines, testing and release processes.

- Support safe deployments, rapid rollback and developer self-service.

- Work with engineers to remove infrastructure and delivery bottlenecks.

**Reliability & Observability**

- Improve monitoring, logging, tracing and alerting.

- Define service metrics and reliability objectives.

- Lead incident analysis and implement preventative improvements.

- Identify capacity and performance risks before they affect users.

**Security & Governance**

- Apply least-privilege access, secrets management and secure configuration practices.

- Manage vulnerabilities, patching, audit logging and change controls.

- Support compliance and security evidence in a regulated, data-sensitive environment.

**Cost & Continuous Improvement**

- Monitor AWS spending and identify cost optimisation opportunities.

- Plan capacity for growing applications and workloads.

- Improve engineering standards, documentation and automation practices.

- Share knowledge and mentor colleagues.

## Requirements

- Strong commercial experience designing and operating production AWS environments.

- Significant DevOps, Cloud, Platform or Site Reliability Engineering experience.

- Hands-on Infrastructure as Code experience, ideally Terraform, CloudFormation or CDK.

- Experience building and maintaining CI/CD pipelines.

- Knowledge of AWS networking, IAM, security, monitoring, backup and disaster recovery.

- Experience with containers and modern deployment patterns.

- Scripting ability in Python, Bash, PowerShell or similar.

- Strong troubleshooting skills across infrastructure, networks and applications.

- Familiarity with metrics, logs, traces and alerting.

- Clear communication, ownership and a security-focused approach to sensitive data.

## Nice to Have

- AWS Associate or Professional certification or equivalent expertise.

- Kubernetes or AWS container services experience.

- Experience with high-volume transactional or data-processing platforms.

- Background in claims, financial services, insurance, fintech or another regulated sector.

- FinOps, cloud cost optimisation, security audits or compliance experience.

## What Success Looks Like

Our AWS platforms are secure, reliable, observable and scalable. Deployments are automated and low-risk, engineers deliver faster, incidents lead to lasting improvements, manual work decreases and cloud costs remain visible and controlled.

## Benefits

- Competitive salary, dependent on experience.

- 20 days annual leave plus bank holidays.

- Ownership of a growing AWS cloud estate.

- Exposure to automation, AI-enabled workflows and modern engineering practices.

- Opportunity to influence architecture, DevOps standards and platform strategy.
