Summary

City of London Corporation

City Surveyor’s Department – Corporate Property Group

We are looking for a Senior Principal Surveyor to lead asset management activity within the Corporate Property Group, with responsibility for allocated portfolios and associated casework. This is an exciting opportunity to take a senior role within a high-profile property team, providing strategic and professional advice across the City of London Corporation’s diverse and unique property portfolio.

About the Role

The role encompasses all aspects of strategic asset management, including developing and implementing Asset Management Plans, improving the efficiency and performance of assets, identifying opportunities to create value, and maintaining the optimum effectiveness of the Corporation’s operational property holdings. The position will involve working closely with a diverse range of internal client departments to understand their strategic requirements and translate these into effective property strategies and solutions.

As a Senior Principal Surveyor, you will take the asset management lead for allocated portfolio(s), with direct responsibility for casework and the functional output of Principal Surveyors and external consultants supporting the portfolio. You will provide strategic advice on property matters, oversee the delivery of Asset Management Plans and support the progression of projects from initial feasibility through to completion and handover.

The role will also involve a broad range of property transactional and valuation responsibilities. These will include undertaking valuations for a variety of purposes, development appraisals, acquisitions and disposals, rent reviews, lease renewals and other estate management matters. You will provide advice on occupational requirements, service charge management, compulsory purchase and compensation matters, and work closely with Property Facilities Managers on day-to-day property management issues.

The post will provide an opportunity to make a significant contribution to the Corporate Property Asset Management Strategy and to influence the future performance and effectiveness of the Corporation’s property assets. You will also represent the City Surveyor at Committees, working parties and with external stakeholders, promoting best practice and maintaining effective relationships with Members, local authorities, developers, investors, occupiers and other professional and government bodies.

Collectively, the City Surveyor’s Department is responsible for managing the City of London’s diverse portfolio of operational, community and tenanted properties, including offices, retail, libraries, open space, wholesale markets, public schools, law courts, Mansion House, Guildhall and the City of London Police estate. The role offers the opportunity to work across this exceptional portfolio while contributing to the Corporation’s wider strategic and operational objectives.

About You

We are looking for an experienced property professional with significant post-qualification experience in managing corporate property portfolios and a strong understanding of strategic asset management and valuation. You will be RICS chartered and a RICS Registered Valuer, or have equivalent relevant experience at this level. You will have experience of developing and implementing Asset Management Plans, managing external consultants and leading or working within multi-disciplinary teams.

Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills are essential, including the ability to provide clear written and verbal advice to Committees and Boards. You will be a confident and collaborative professional, capable of providing functional leadership to Principal Surveyors and consultants while building strong relationships with internal clients and external stakeholders.

The City of London Corporation is currently undergoing a programme to ensure that our pay and reward practices are competitive and equitable across the whole organisation, to ensure that everyone has the opportunity to thrive in the work that we do.

Closing date: 23:59pm on 4 November 2026.

Interviews will be held w/c 23 November 2026.
