Ready to Make a Real Difference? Join Our Housing Standards Team!

Boston Borough Council is looking for a passionate and proactive Senior Housing Standards Officer to lead the Boston Housing Standards Team and help shape the quality of the service across the Partnership.

Are you ready for your next challenge? Do you want a role where every day brings variety, purpose, and the opportunity to improve people's lives? If so, we'd love to hear from you.

As a Senior Housing Standards Officer, you'll play a vital role in protecting residents, improving housing conditions and ensuring landlords meet their responsibilities within the private rented sector. This is an exciting opportunity to develop your career within a dynamic and supportive team while making a tangible difference within local communities.

This is a shared role within the South & East Lincolnshire Councils Partnership where decision-making across the other two councils will be required from time to time. You will be working collaboratively with the other Senior Officers within the Partnership. With support from the Team Leader and Group Manager, you will be working as a key person within the team to help deliver this service. You will need to be prepared to deal with a wide range of premises and people across our diverse borough, in collaboration with our partnering agencies.

A Baseline Personnel Security Standard (BPSS check) in addition to a Basic Disclosure (DBS check) is a likely requirement of this role.

No two days are the same in this rewarding role. Your responsibilities include:

Providing day-to-day line management of the Boston based team as well as guidance/support in relation to both the technical aspect of housing work as well as the processes followed to the wider team members across the Partnership.

Conducting risk-based property inspections and identifying housing hazards in accordance with the Housing Health and Safety Rating System (HHSRS).

Investigating and regulating Houses in Multiple Occupation (HMOs), working closely with landlords and managing agents to achieve compliance.

Processing HMO licence applications.

Undertaking Immigration and Homes for Ukraine accommodation inspections.

Bringing empty properties back into use across the Borough.

Gathering evidence and preparing documentation to support enforcement action where necessary.

Preparing professional evidence bundles for court proceedings and legal action.

What We're Looking For

We're seeking someone who is enthusiastic, adaptable and committed to delivering excellent outcomes.

You'll ideally have:

Experience working within housing or a related field.

Experience of people management.

Familiarity with serving statutory notices and enforcement activity.

A professional, calm and positive approach.

The ability to balance empathy with objectivity.

Excellent communication and listening skills.

Strong organisational, written and IT skills with exceptional attention to detail.

The confidence to work independently while also contributing effectively as part of a team.

A genuine desire to learn, develop and build your expertise.

Why Join Us?

This is more than just a job. It's an opportunity to build a rewarding career in a role where your work directly improves homes, communities and lives.

If you're someone who thrives on new challenges, embraces change, and enjoys working in a varied and meaningful role, we'd be excited to welcome you to our team.

This position is a shared role within the South and East Lincolnshire Councils Partnership (SELCP) and forms part of the S113 agreement between the participating partnership Councils in accordance with the Memorandum of Agreement 1st October 2021.
