You will deliver personalised learning that develops functional skills, confidence and independence, helping students make meaningful progress towards their individual goals.

Responsibilities

- Plan and deliver engaging, differentiated lessons suited to Post-16 learners with complex special educational needs.

- Develop students' functional skills, communication and practical independence through purposeful learning activities.

- Use Education, Health and Care Plans (EHCPs) to inform teaching, establish individual targets and monitor progress.

- Adapt teaching approaches and classroom resources to accommodate different learning styles, abilities and communication needs.

- Establish consistent classroom routines that promote positive behaviour, emotional wellbeing and active participation.

- Work closely with teaching assistants and other professionals to provide coordinated support for individual learners.

- Assess student development, maintain accurate records and adjust learning activities in response to progress.

- Communicate effectively with families, colleagues and external professionals to support students' wider development.

- Maintain a safe, inclusive learning environment and follow safeguarding procedures at all times.

Essential Candidate Requirements

- Qualified Teacher Status (QTS).

- Previous experience teaching learners with special educational needs.

- Good understanding of Autism, learning difficulties and communication needs.

- Ability to plan and deliver differentiated lessons for students working towards individual learning outcomes.

- Confidence in managing classroom behaviour and implementing appropriate support strategies.

- Strong communication, organisation and teamwork skills.

- A patient, adaptable and student-centred approach to teaching.

- Full-time availability for a long-term teaching placement.

- An Enhanced DBS registered on the Update Service, or willingness to complete a new Enhanced DBS check.

Experience teaching within a specialist SEN school, Post-16 provision or further education setting would be particularly beneficial. Familiarity with functional skills, independence-focused learning and preparing young people for adulthood would also be advantageous.
