Summary
The Role
We are seeking an empathetic, proactive, and resilient SEN Intervention Teaching Assistant to join our support team. In this vital role, you will deliver targeted, structured intervention programmes to pupils who require additional help to access the curriculum, build confidence, and manage their school day.
You will work closely with the classroom teachers and our Special Educational Needs Coordinator (SENCO) to bridge learning gaps and support pupils with a diverse range of additional needs, including Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD), ADHD, Speech and Language difficulties, and SEMH (Social, Emotional and Mental Health) needs.
Key Responsibilities:
• Deliver Targeted Interventions: Run structured 1:1 and small group interventions focusing on literacy, phonics, numeracy, and communication skills.
• Support EHCP Targets: Implement strategies tailored to pupils' Education, Health, and Care Plans (EHCPs), tracking progress and adapting resources.
• Promote Emotional & Sensory Regulation: Help students manage anxiety, build sensory breaks into their routines, and use positive behaviour de-escalation strategies.
• Encourage Independence: Guide pupils toward building social skills, self-confidence, and positive peer relationships rather than establishing over-reliance.
• Collaborate and Record: Track student progress accurately, providing meaningful feedback to the class teacher, SENCO, and external specialists (like speech therapists).
Essential requirements
What We Are Looking For (Requirements): • Experience: Proven experience delivering speech & language, literacy, or numeracy interventions within a UK school setting. • SEN Knowledge: A strong foundational understanding of supporting children with complex needs such as ASD, ADHD, or SEMH. • Attributes: High levels of patience, a calm under-pressure demeanour, and a genuine passion for inclusive education. • Qualifications: A relevant childcare/education qualification or degree (e.g., Psychology) is highly desirable but not mandatory. • Safeguarding: A valid Enhanced DBS certificate registered on the Update Service (or a willingness to apply for one). • What We Offer: • A warm, highly collaborative, and supportive staff network • Access to ongoing professional development, including safeguarding and SEN-specific training • Free on-site parking and excellent transport links
