Job purpose
As a Case Manager, you will contribute to the delivery of the Charity Commission’s statutory functions through the management of complex and high-risk regulatory casework. You will make risk-based decisions within a legal and policy framework, ensuring that the Commission’s powers are exercised lawfully, proportionately and effectively.
Working within Registration or Regulatory Authority, you will manage a varied caseload and be responsible for delivering high-quality regulatory outcomes that support public trust and confidence in charities. You will exercise sound judgement, analyse complex information and make timely decisions in accordance with charity law, Commission policy and the Commission’s risk framework.
You will typically manage the more complex, higher-risk or novel cases within your area of responsibility. You will gather, assess and analyse information from a range of sources to inform evidence-based regulatory decisions and, where required, prepare recommendations, briefings and submissions for senior managers and governance forums.
You will engage with trustees, professional advisers, applicants and other stakeholders, gathering and assessing information to inform regulatory decisions. Depending on the nature of the work, this may include assessing whether organisations meet the legal definition of charity, including determining charitable status and public benefit, or assessing applications for regulatory consent or authority. You will provide regulatory advice and guidance, and where appropriate exercise statutory powers to enable charities to operate effectively and within the law.
The role requires high standards of written work and strong verbal communication skills, with a focus on robust decision-making, providing advice and guidance to external stakeholders and colleagues, and promoting quality, consistency and continuous improvement. You will be solution-focused, able to work independently within a wider team, and comfortable operating in a digital environment.
You will provide technical oversight, coaching and mentoring to Executive Officer (EO) colleagues within your areas of expertise and, where required, may also line manage EO or Administrative Officer (AO) members of the team. You will support the consistent application of policy, guidance and quality standards across the team whilst promoting a positive and supportive workplace culture.
