We are seeking an experienced Health & Safety Manager to oversee our health and safety arrangements and ensure work is carried out safely across our sites.

Role Overview

You will review health and safety compliance, inspect sites, and advise managers on the actions needed to protect employees, subcontractors, residents, and the public. This is a practical, hands-on role that requires someone who can identify risks, address unsafe practices, and follow through to ensure corrective actions are completed.

Key Responsibilities

  • Carry out regular site inspections and audits to check compliance with applicable health and safety requirements and company procedures.
  • Identify hazards, unsafe practices and gaps in compliance, providing clear recommendations and timescales for corrective action.
  • Track actions through to completion and escalate serious or recurring concerns to senior management.
  • Intervene where work presents a serious risk, ensuring appropriate action is taken before it continues.
  • Review, develop and maintain health and safety policies, procedures and supporting documentation.
  • Review risk assessments and method statements (RAMS), ensuring they are suitable for the work and understood by those carrying it out.
  • Advise managers and site teams on safe working practices, including working at height, access equipment, manual handling, dust exposure, asbestos risks and electrical safety.
  • Check that suitable arrangements are in place to protect residents and the public when working in occupied properties.
  • Review subcontractor health and safety documentation, competence and working practices.
  • Ensure appropriate site inductions, toolbox talks and safety briefings are delivered and recorded.
  • Check relevant training, competency records, equipment inspections and certification.
  • Investigate accidents, incidents and near misses, identifying causes and implementing measures to prevent recurrence.
  • Coordinate statutory incident reporting where required.
  • Review emergency arrangements, fire precautions, first aid provision and welfare facilities.
  • Support compliance with applicable construction health and safety duties, including CDM requirements.
  • Maintain accurate records and provide senior management with clear updates on risks, inspection findings and outstanding actions.

Essential Qualifications and Experience

  • NEBOSH National General Certificate or NEBOSH Health and Safety Management for Construction qualification, or an equivalent recognised qualification.
  • Previous experience in a Health & Safety Manager, Adviser or similar role within construction, retrofit, building services or a related sector.
  • Experience conducting site inspections, reviewing RAMS and managing corrective actions.
  • Sound knowledge of UK health and safety legislation and its practical application on construction sites.
  • Experience investigating incidents and advising managers on preventative measures.
  • Confidence to challenge unsafe practices and communicate effectively with managers, operatives and subcontractors.
  • Strong organisation, attention to detail and the ability to prioritise within part-time hours.
  • Full UK driving licence and willingness to travel to sites.

Desirable Qualifications and Experience

  • Experience in domestic retrofit, energy efficiency works or social housing.
  • Experience overseeing works in occupied properties.
  • Relevant IOSH membership.
  • Additional training in asbestos awareness, working at height or auditing.

What We Are Looking For

We are looking for a proactive health and safety professional who can turn inspection findings into practical improvements. You will be visible on site, approachable to our teams and confident in holding people accountable for safe working practices.
