Contract: Ongoing longterm temporary assignment

Role overview

A manufacturing company based in Dundee is seeking a Finance Assistant to support its accounts receivable function during an ongoing temporary assignment.

This is a broader position than traditional credit control. Approximately 30% of the role involves collections, with the remaining work focused on revenue analysis, rental contracts, invoicing and investigating discrepancies across SAP and Salesforce.

The successful candidate will work closely with the Assistant Business Controller and wider finance team. They will need to be proactive, analytical and comfortable working through complex or manual processes.

Key responsibilities

  • Proactively manage business-to-business credit control and customer accounts.
  • Contact customers to confirm invoices have been received and resolve payment issues.
  • Investigate disputed invoices, expired purchase orders and insufficient order values.
  • Review rental contracts, charging structures and variable customer rates.
  • Analyse differences between invoiced, accrued and recognised revenue.
  • Use Power BI and Excel to review contracts and financial information.
  • Check that transactions and revenue have been recorded correctly.
  • Create manual invoices and credit notes where required.
  • Investigate issues caused by the integration between SAP and Salesforce.
  • Identify system or process errors and make corrections where appropriate.
  • Escalate more complex accounting or contractual issues to the relevant team member.
  • Produce financial analysis for the Assistant Business Controller and senior stakeholders.
  • Support accounts progressing through formal dispute or legal processes.

Skills and experience

Essential

  • Previous accounts receivable, billing, revenue or credit control experience.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Experience investigating invoicing or transaction discrepancies.
  • Good understanding of invoices, credit notes and accrued revenue.
  • Confident Excel skills, including working with financial datasets.
  • Experience communicating directly with business customers.
  • A proactive approach to managing receivables and resolving issues.
  • Ability to work independently and learn unfamiliar processes.
  • Strong attention to detail.

Desirable

  • Previous experience using SAP.
  • Experience working with Salesforce or another CRM system.
  • Experience using Power BI.
  • Exposure to rental, contract billing or variable charging models.
  • Experience working within a large or international organisation.
  • Understanding of general ledger and revenue accounting principles.

Team structure

The Finance Assistant AR will report to the Assistant Business Controller and work alongside colleagues supporting accounts payable, receivables, SAP processes and financial control.

The wider accounts payable process is supported by an international shared-service team, so the successful candidate may also work with colleagues based outside the UK.

Working arrangements

The role operates from 9:00am to 4:30pm, with a 30-minute lunch break. Hybrid working is available, with employees typically attending the office two or three days each week.

Overtime is not routinely expected.

This is an ongoing temporary position supporting a longstanding requirement within the finance team. There is no confirmed end date, but applicants should be aware that there is no guaranteed route to permanent employment.
