Veterinary Surgeon – Independent Small Animal Practice

Hoddesdon, Hertfordshire | Full-Time | | £55,000- £70,000 DOE

Are you an experienced Small Animal Veterinary Surgeon looking to join an independent practice that values clinical freedom, high standards of patient care and a healthy work-life balance?

Our client is a growing, independent small animal practice in Hoddesdon, Hertfordshire, looking for an experienced Veterinary Surgeon with ideally four or more years of experience to join their friendly and supportive team.

This is an excellent opportunity for a confident vet who enjoys working within an experienced team, is comfortable with sole charge when required, and would welcome the chance to develop their clinical interests. An interest in diagnostic imaging would be particularly welcomed, although this is not essential.

The Role

• Full-time position, working 40 hours over four weekdays

• 1 in 3 Saturday mornings, 8:30am–1pm

• No Sundays, bank holidays or out-of-hours

• 20-minute consultations as standard, with flexibility for complex cases and euthanasia

• Paid and protected hour lunch break

• A varied small animal caseload with opportunities to develop clinical interests

• Work alongside an experienced team, including an Advanced Practitioner in ophthalmology

About the Practice

Our client is an independent, RCVS Practice Standards Scheme-accredited small animal practice, with Dog Friendly and Cat Friendly credentials. The team places a strong emphasis on patient welfare, low-stress handling and delivering compassionate care.

The practice is well equipped, with digital radiography, dental X-ray, a high-quality ultrasound machine, an IDEXX in-house laboratory and laser therapy facilities. There are also two operating theatres, three consulting rooms, separate dog, cat and isolation wards, and a dedicated euthanasia room.

You'll be supported by an experienced clinical team, including four RVNs and a VCA, with regular in-house CPD, journal clubs and a supportive management structure.

The Ideal Candidate

• RCVS-registered Veterinary Surgeon with ideally four or more years of experience

• Confident with sole-charge responsibilities

• A compassionate vet committed to high standards of patient care

• A team player who enjoys working collaboratively and sharing knowledge

• An interest in diagnostic imaging would be advantageous but is not essential

• Someone looking to develop their clinical skills within a supportive independent practice

Salary & Benefits

• Salary from

£55,000- £70,000 depending on experience

• Four-day working week

• £2,000 annual CPD allowance and five CPD days

• Support for ongoing clinical development

• RCVS and VDS fees paid
