We are delighted to offer an opportunity for an enthusiastic and highly motivated Consultant General Paediatrician to   join the Avoidant Restrictive Food Intake Disorder (ARFID) Team, part of the Maudsley Centre for Child and Adolescent Eating Disorders (MCCAED) at the Maudsley Hospital, London.

 This is a permanent 5 PA Consultant General Paediatrician post, having previously been a locum position,  within the Maudsley Centre for Child and Adolescent Eating Disorders (MCCAED); department of National and Specialist services for Child and Adolescent Mental Health.

The purpose of the post is to provide Consultant Paediatric advice, consultation and management for patients within MCCAED. This will include regular weekly commitments to the ARFID service and to be available for advice and consultation to the wider MCCAED service.  The Consultant Paediatrician will support the delivery of effective specialist interventions to young people with eating disorders, in accordance with Trust policies and national guidance, and in collaboration with other members of the multidisciplinary team.

The post holder will play a critical role in ensuring safe medical care for the patients within MCCAED and contributing to ongoing quality improvements in the service. The postholder will also contribute to the leadership and strategic development of the service, particularly with respect to paediatric aspects of care.

Clinical Responsibilities

1.   Ensure that high standards and appropriate protocols are in place and rigorously followed for all aspects of the service

2.   Provide a regular general paediatric service for patientsunder the ARFID servicewith a range of conditions.This includes all aspects of assessment and management of paediatric comorbidities

3.   Assess and evaluate information and results of investigations, write reports and present information to others as appropriate

4.   Support the development of paediatric care plans including using clinical judgement regarding priority of support, expected timelines etc

5.   Liaise with other health professionals and social care teams as necessary to support appropriate care for patients.

6.   Liaise with wider paediatric services regarding the care of children and adolescents in the ARFID service. 

7.   Support and advise colleagues regarding the clinical assessment and care of children and adolescents with ARFID

8.   Provide consultation and advice to the Outpatient, START and Intensive Therapy service around paediatric aspects of care when needed.

9.   Support other senior members of the service in the execution   of statutory roles and responsibilities to ensure the organisation meets its responsibilities tosafeguardchildren andyoung people and meet their health and well-being needs.

10.The post holder has an important responsibility for and contribution to make to infectioncontrol and must be familiar with the infection control and hygiene requirements of this role.These requirements are set out in the National Code of Practice on Infection Control and inlocalpoliciesandprocedureswhichwillbemadeclearduringyourinductionandsubsequent refreshertraining.These standardsmustbestrictlycompliedwithatalltimes. The postholder will be expected to undertake annualtraining/updates in infection prevention andcontrol.

11.TobeaccountableforimplementationoftheCodeofPracticewithinowndepartment/areaof responsibility.

12.To prepare for and undertake the protective interventions that you are responsible for in amannerthatisconsistentwithevidence-basedpracticeandmaintainingpatient safety.
