Summary

Head of General Management

Reporting to the Managing Director of SFP, The Head of General Management will oversee and work across multiple shows both in production and development simultaneously, alongside the specific SFP Production/Development team allocated for each show, alongside the Business Affairs team.

In this varied and exciting role, you will work closely with the producers and general managers of SFP’s international productions, including Broadway.

Key responsibilities:

CONTRACTUAL & FINANCIAL

Preparation and management of production budgets working with SFP’s FD and external Production Accountants as required, ensuring that resources are managed effectively within financial constraints.

Regular forecasting and analysis of financial projections for productions.

Liaison with Company Managers on a regular basis to ensure the efficient and accurate financial administration of productions.

Creation and analysis of royalty and salary illustrations, as required, and preparation of royalty statements.

Oversight of production accounts and ensuring their regular circulation to stakeholders.

Continual review and development of existing systems of financial management.

Negotiation and drafting of co-production and transfer agreements in consultation with other senior SFP staff.

Collaboration with the Executive Director and Business Affairs team on investment raising for UK and overseas production, including preparation of investment documents in accordance with the theatre industry’s practice regarding the Financial Services Act. Keeping investors regularly updated on productions in conjunction with the Executive Director and Business Affairs team.

Negotiation and / or oversight of the preparation of all contracts for theatre productions including theatre, actors, author, creative teams, and production teams to minimise financial risk, working with the Executive Director and/or Associate Producers and the Business Affairs team.

Arrangement of adequate and appropriate insurance for SFP productions.

Point of contact for the production manager and company managers for all financial, contractual, and budgetary matters on nominated productions.

Oversight of the checking and agreement of contras.

Work with the Executive Director, Managing Director and Finance Director in the preparation of SFP’s annual production income budgets and reforecasting income summaries.

Oversight of ticket sales performance, yield management, pricing strategy, and inventory management in conjunction with marketing, ticketing, and producing teams.

Analysis of sales trends and audience data to inform commercial decision-making and production strategy.

MANAGEMENT

Mentoring, training, and line managing the Associate General Manager and other staff members of SFP as required.

Attendance at production meetings and dealing with the issues that arise, ensuring there is always effective communication between all SFP staff, production, and creative departments.

Attendance at marketing meetings as required.

Attendance at workshops, readings, and productions in London and on tour.

Attendance at run throughs, previews, and press nights, as necessary.

Keeping abreast of and advising on current Union and Trade Agreements which may impact on SFP’s producing activity.

Representation of SFP and the theatre industry at SOLT/UK Theatre union negotiations, as required.

Be present at SFP performances, events and meetings as required (which may include some evening and weekend work).

Provide general management support to individual productions if necessary.

Regularly updating SFP staff on all key aspects of nominated productions.

Essential

Significant senior-level experience in general management, producing, company management, business affairs, or a related role ideally within commercial theatre.

Demonstrable experience preparing and managing complex production budgets, financial forecasts, and commercial models, with strong financial and analytical skills.

Proven ability to negotiate and manage a wide range of commercial contracts and stakeholder relationships, including producers, venues, creative teams, investors, and service providers.

Strong understanding of theatre production structures, union and industry agreements, royalty arrangements, and production accounting processes.

Experience managing multiple large-scale projects simultaneously, balancing competing priorities and delivering results under pressure.

Excellent leadership, communication, and people management skills, with experience mentoring and developing team members.

Commercially minded with the ability to assess opportunities, identify risks, and support strategic decision-making.

Strong attention to detail, excellent organisational skills, and the ability to work independently while collaborating effectively across departments.

Knowledge of UK and international theatre industry practices, including transfer, touring, and licensing activity.

Desirable

Experience working on first-class Broadway and/or major international productions.

Existing relationships with key industry stakeholders including producing offices, theatre owners, unions, and commercial partners.

Experience overseeing large-scale UK and/or international touring productions, including the operational, financial, and contractual complexities associated with touring.

Experience managing production transfers, including West End, Broadway, touring, and international engagements.

Proven ability to thrive in a fast-paced, high-volume producing environment, managing multiple productions and competing priorities simultaneously.

Experience building and maintaining relationships with high-profile producers, authors, creatives, performers, agents, and other senior industry stakeholders.
