Summary

This is an assistant psychology role in the National Adult Autism and ADHD Psychology Service (NAAAPS), a specialist outpatient psychology clinic for adults with attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) and/or autism.  NAAAPS provides psychological therapy for individuals and/or their supporters and one-off assessment and/or consultation.

Under guidance and supervision of a qualified psychologist and in line with the overall framework of the team’s policies and procedures, the postholder will support psychological assessments, formulations and interventions with NAAAPS clients.  The post holder will also assist in clinically related administration, conduct of audits, collection of statistics, and development of audit and/or research projects, teaching and project work.

We are committed to supporting staff in their career aspirations. You will be able to develop your skills and build on your experience to progress into other roles across different specialties. For this role, we offer support to develop towards the next step on your career ladder, for example by facilitating experiences such as undertaking research or therapeutic groupwork where possible. In addition, we offer ongoing training and development including weekly Education and Research meetings across the pathway and beyond, and monthly CPD for psychological practitioners.

The assistant psychologist works closely with qualified psychologists within the service to provide psychological input to adults with a diagnosis of autism and/or ADHD and their support networks.

This can include, but is not limited to, individual and group  therapeutic input, family support, training and consultation. The post holder will also assist in clinically related administration, conduct of audits, collection of statistics, and development of audit and/or research projects, teaching and project work.

The successful candidate will need a good understanding of the psychological needs of neurodivergent individuals and the ability to provide flexible input depending on individual needs. Good multi-disciplinary working and the ability to use supervision well are vital, as well as the capacity to self-motivate and organise.

NAAAPS is one of several services across our autism and ADHD pathways.  The pathway services are staffed by multi-disciplinary colleagues including psychiatrists, psychological practitioners, occupational therapists, speech and language therapists and nurses, supported by skilled administrative and managerial staff.

There is a commitment across the services to ongoing reflection and service development to ensure services are efficient and responsive. We have close links with Kings College and undertake research across the service, as well as offering support and teaching to their Masters and Doctorate courses.
