Summary

The Department for Work and Pensions (DWP) is responsible for welfare, labour market, pensions, and child maintenance policy. As the UK’s biggest public service department, we administer the State Pension and a range of working age, disability and ill health benefits to around 23 million claimants and customers.

We have several vacancies offering the chance to work with Ministers and Special Advisers (Spads), helping them to address challenges that affect the lives of people across the country. These roles provide an opportunity to see how Ministers, Special Advisers and the Civil Service operate in a way that is rarely matched in other roles of the same grade.

In this role you will be responsible for:

  • Working closely with Ministers and Special Advisers to deliver on the Government’s priorities and make sure they are clearly understood across the Department.
  • Working alongside senior stakeholders across the Department, including both policy and operations, to provide high quality and timely advice and ensure the effective delivery of priorities.
  • Developing a strong understanding of your portfolio area within the Ministerial team and to horizon scan alongside officials, Spads and Parliamentary teams.
  • Supporting the Minister in a wide range of internal and external meetings, with responsibility for accurate readouts of meetings, capturing actions and ensuring progress.
  • Building a network across the Ministerial and senior officials’ Private Office, and Private Offices in key departments across government.
  • Demonstrating exceptional organisational skills and ability to prioritise, problem solve and balance a high number of short demanding deadlines.

Due to nature of the role, candidates will be required to work full-time hours only.

The jobholder would be required to be office based (Caxton House, London).

At times, it may be necessary to work long hours, especially when Parliament is sitting, for which overtime will be payable.
