An established environmental consultancy is looking to appoint an Ecological Clerk of Works / Ecological Consultant to join its growing team in Scotland.
This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced ecologist who enjoys combining technical ecological work with practical, site-based responsibilities. You will support a diverse range of development and construction projects, working alongside clients, contractors and multidisciplinary project teams to ensure ecological requirements are successfully delivered.
Your new role
You will provide ecological and environmental support throughout the life cycle of projects, with a particular focus on construction-phase compliance, ecological mitigation and ECoW responsibilities.
Key responsibilities will include:
- Delivering Ecological Clerk of Works (ECoW) services across active construction sites.
- Providing practical ecological advice to clients, contractors and project teams.
- Monitoring construction activities against ecological mitigation requirements, planning conditions and relevant legislation.
- Undertaking and coordinating ecological field surveys, including habitat and protected species surveys.
- Producing ecological reports, assessments and other technical documentation.
- Collecting, analysing and mapping ecological data using GIS/QGIS.
- Preparing risk assessments and supporting the safe delivery of field and site-based work.
- Managing smaller projects, including programming, client liaison and reporting.
- Maintaining accurate site records and supporting wider project coordination.
- Building strong working relationships with clients, contractors and other stakeholders.
What you'll need to succeed
To be considered for this opportunity, you should have:
- A degree in Ecology, Environmental Science or a related discipline.
- Previous experience within an ecological or environmental consultancy environment.
- Experience undertaking ecological field surveys across a variety of UK habitats and species.
- A good understanding of relevant ecological and environmental legislation, industry guidance and best practice.
- Confidence working independently in outdoor environments and on active construction sites.
- Strong organisational, time-management and record-keeping skills.
- The ability to manage multiple priorities and work effectively under pressure.
- A full UK driving licence.
- Flexibility to travel, work away from home and occasionally undertake unsociable hours as required.
A current CSCS card would be advantageous, although support can be provided where required.
