About The Role

We are seeking a General Catering Assistant to join the catering team at Avanti Grange Secondary School, supporting the smooth and efficient delivery of our daily food service. The role will involve assisting with food preparation, meal packing and service, maintaining clean and organised kitchen and dining areas, and ensuring that service areas are fully prepared for pupils, staff and visitors.

You will work closely with the wider catering team to ensure food and refreshments are prepared and served to a high standard, while helping to create a welcoming and positive dining experience across the school.

This is a varied, hands-on role where teamwork, reliability and attention to detail are important. You will contribute to the day-to-day running of the kitchen and Front of House areas, including supporting with deliveries and stock, maintaining high standards of cleanliness and hygiene, and ensuring that all food is handled safely and in line with relevant procedures.

Working as part of a supportive team, you will play an important role in providing a safe, efficient and professional catering service for the Avanti Grange school community.

What will you do?

• Support the kitchen and Front of House teams with food preparation, meal packing, service set-up and the smooth delivery of daily catering services.

• Maintain high standards of cleanliness and hygiene across the kitchen, dining and Front of House areas, including cleaning equipment, managing waste and recycling, and keeping crockery and cutlery ready for service.

• Receive, handle, store and rotate deliveries and stock, ensuring all food is prepared, stored and handled in accordance with food safety, quality and hygiene requirements.

• Work collaboratively with the Chef Manager, Front of House Manager and wider catering team to provide a professional and welcoming service for pupils, staff and visitors.

• Follow all Health & Safety procedures, including COSHH, HACCP, risk assessments, safe systems of work and temperature controls, and promptly report any defects, risks or near misses.

• Understanding of food hygiene and kitchen health and safety

• The ability to work unsupervised in a busy environment

• Ability to follow strict instructions in a systematic and consistent manner
