Summary
This young lady has Autism and is largely non-verbal, communicating primarily through a small number of words and other forms of expression. She lives at home with her parents and four siblings in a supportive family environment. She is a happy, energetic young person who enjoys playing with her toys and will often excitedly share her favourite items with those she knows and trusts. She thrives on routine, familiarity, and consistency, and benefits from support from people who are patient, understanding, and willing to build a positive relationship with her over time. Her parents and siblings have an excellent understanding of her individual needs and will provide guidance regarding her likes, dislikes, communication style, and any triggers that should be avoided. Initially, family members, particularly Mum, will be available to support the introduction and help establish a trusting relationship. She enjoys being active and spending time outdoors. One of her favourite activities is walking with the family dog. For longer trips, she uses a wheelchair, which she is often happy to push herself until she becomes tired, at which point she will sit in it. She also enjoys swimming; however, Mum would prefer this activity to be supported by a second adult to ensure her safety and wellbeing. The role of the Personal Assistant will be to provide companionship, support her to access social and community activities, and help her develop opportunities for engagement outside the home at a pace that is comfortable for her. This additional support will not only enhance her social experiences and quality of life but will also provide valuable respite and assistance to her family.
