Woodburn Primary is a large and well-established community focussed primary school that serves the Woodburn area of Dalkeith. Following an extension completed in October 2024, the school gained 9 classrooms, a STEM room, additional gym hall, improved outdoor play spaces and a multi-use games area. In January 2025, the school also gained a Complex Needs Provision.

As a Grade 5 Office Administrative Officer, the successful post holder will lead the office team consisting of an Office Administrative Assistant (Grade 4) and two Office Support Assistants (Grade 2). They must be able to manage a busy school office environment, prioritising a wide range of tasks and supporting the School Leadership Team.

Educational:

Essential:

Educated to HNC or SVQ3 level in business administration or related subject and/extensive experience working in an administrative role, managing a team, scheduling/monitoring work. It is essential the jobholder has competency in literacy and numeracy skills, such as an education to Higher standard including passes in Mathematics and English, or equivalent.

Experience:

Essential

  • Skilled in the use of Microsoft Office suite, Word, Excel, Outlook
  • Knowledge of and experience in using education/financial databases
  • Considerable previous office experience, preferably in an education environment, demonstrating supervisory, organisation, budgetary and communication skills is essential.
  • Experience of managing a busy office environment and supervising staff
  • Ability to prioritise and organise a range of tasks
  • Effective written and verbal communication skills
  • Customer Service and/or reception experience
  • Previous financial operational and/or budget management experience.
  • PVG Membership (Children)

Desirable

Previous experience in developing and implementing new ways of working including implementing new systems and procedures utilising new technology.

Working Pattern: Monday to Thursday, 08:30-15:45 & Friday, 08:30-12:45 

Weeks per year: 39

Please note that it is Midlothian Councils policy that successful applicants will be appointed to the first point on the salary scale.

Based on 30 hours over 39 weeks per year, the minimum actual salary for this position is £23,394.16 per annum. 

Requirements

This post is considered Regulated Work with Children under the Protection of Vulnerable Groups (Scotland) Act, 2007. Therefore, it is an offence to apply if you are barred from working with children.
