What skills and experience we're looking for
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
• Be an exemplar teacher within the department and across the College:
• Plan, resource and deliver lessons and sequences of lessons to the highest standard to ensure real learning takes place and pupils make excellent progress
• Help develop an ambitious culture and ethos that is committed raising attainment
• Provide a nurturing classroom that helps pupils to develop as learners
• Help to positively promote good behaviour across the College
• Direct and supervise support staff assigned to lessons
• Collaborate with the Head of Department and the department to plan, implement and review the curriculum. This will include the creation and development of challenging and innovative schemes of work which are inspiring for learners and teachers alike
• Collaborate with the Head of Department on the use of technology to improve learning and outcomes in English and KS4 and KS5
• Assist the Head of Department with the mechanisms for quality assurance and co-lead on appraisal with some members of the department.
• Deputise for the Head of Department in her absence.
• Take responsibility for at least one of the three Key Stage groups within the department.
• Line manage the lead teacher responsible for ‘whole school reading’
• Share in the organisation of intervention strategies, revision support and enrichment activities such as trips and other events.
• Assist the Head of Department with writing and preparing assessments and systems to ensure consistency of feedback across the department.
• Use assessments and data to monitor progress and set targets and follow up where necessary including communication with parents and the department.
• Assist the Head of Department with induction of new staff and trainee teachers.
• Contributing to the development and implementation of policies, practices and procedures
• Raise the profile of English across the school

The College has two additional weeks holiday per year compared to the average state school: our October half term is two weeks long and our Christmas holiday is three weeks and there are opportunities for
international travel: no member of staff will be asked to do this if they don’t want to however we have regular trips to Iceland, the Alps, Spain, France, Italy and the USA.
There are many opportunities for CPD including through our partnership with Eton College and the Boarding Schools’ Association.
