Deans House is a residential care home for adults with learning disabilities based in Livingston. The service supports individuals to engage in a wide range of meaningful community activities, helping them achieve their personal outcomes, goals and aspirations. We promote independence and support residents to develop the skills and confidence required to move on to smaller care settings or individual tenancies, where appropriate.
In addition to supporting permanent residents, the service also provides short-break and respite care, offering individuals the opportunity to enjoy a varied programme of activities and personalised support throughout their stay.
An exciting opportunity has arisen for a motivated and committed individual to join our team as a
part-time Social Care Assistant. The successful candidate will play a key role in supporting the development and delivery of high-quality, person-centred care and support. This will be in line with West Lothian Council policies and procedures, Care Inspectorate standards, and relevant national strategies and guidance.

- Have experience in care planning and delivering person-centred support.
- Hold a minimum of SVQ Level 2 in Health and Social Care (or an equivalent qualification).
- Have experience of working effectively as part of a team.
The successful candidate must be willing to progress with studying working towards a SVQ3 and HNC in social care. The candidate must be willing to work towards these qualifications which will then progress them to a social care worker. It is essential that candidates only apply that are willing to progress with their studies in a specified timeframe.
About the Role
The successful candidate will be able to demonstrate:
- Excellent communication skills, including the ability to communicate effectively with a wide range of individuals using verbal, written and alternative communication methods.
- The ability to remain calm and professional when working under pressure.
- Strong organisational skills and the ability to prioritise workload effectively.
- A commitment to delivering high-quality, person-centred care and support.
Experience of working within a residential care setting is desirable, along with an understanding of trauma-informed practice. Experience of supporting individuals within a residential environment and contributing to the effective day-to-day operation of the service would be advantageous.
