Summary

A Vacancy at St George's University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust.

Applications are invited for a 12 month maternity cover appointment as a Consultant Haematologist with expertise and interest in lymphoid haemato-oncology and especially in CAR-T and other cell-based treatments at St. George’s University Hospitals Foundation Trust.  This post is an exciting opportunity to work as an integral part of a dynamic haematology department within an acute teaching hospital trust and the opportunity to concentrate on a sub-specialty interest in cellular therapies especially CAR-T.  

 

The successful applicant will join a team of 15 other haematologists based at St George’s who together provide haematology services  and HSCT for malignant and non-malignant haematology. 

 

The post holder will help provide an expertly led comprehensive range of inpatient and outpatient services for patients with lymphoproliferative disorders including assessment for consideration of cellular therapies including CAR-T and post CAR-T care.  The post holder will work closely with the care group lead/clinical director in shaping a tertiary cellular therapies programme for the hospital   This is in addition to expertise in apheresis and in HSCT, in particular autologous transplants The post holder will be a core member of the haemato-oncology multidisciplinary team and will also be actively involved in the provision and delivery of diagnostic services as part of the South West London pathology network. 

 

The appointee will be responsible for the development and maintenance of a high standard of practice of clinical and laboratory haematology.

-Provide an expertly led comprehensive range of inpatient and outpatient services for patients with lymphoproliferative disorders including those requiring an autologous HSCT or CAR-T therapy.

-Further develop a comprehensive cellular therapy programme for the hospital.

-Work closely with essential stakeholders in the CAR-T programme (ICU, neurology, management, stem cell processing laboratory and commissioners). There is a close working relationship with the Apheresis team instrumental in CAR-T delivery.

-Provide consultant input for clinical and laboratory aspects of the haemato-oncology service and work collaboratively with other consultant colleagues in the delivery of the haemato-oncology in-patient and outpatient services.

-Be part of the transplant as well as lymphoma attending team managing inpatient care working in rotation with the other members of the team, to provide robust cover for all patients with white cell disorders admitted to St George’s Hospital.

-Be a core member of the haemato-oncology multidisciplinary team and will be actively involved in the provision and delivery of diagnostic services as part of the South West London pathology network.

-Ensure provision of a high standard of practice of laboratory diagnostic haematology services in partnership with the South West London Pathology Network.

The post holder will help ensure provision of a high standard of practice of laboratory diagnostic haematology services in partnership with the South West London Pathology Network, the hub of which is based at St George’s Hospital, working in conjunction with the other haematology consultants to ensure comprehensive cover for the laboratory.

 

 

Research

There is a strong focus on research and the post holder is expected to work with the care group lead in developing a cellular therapy translational and clinical trials portfolio.  Previous academic and research experience will be valued.

 

 

Teaching

The post holder will be encouraged to be actively involved in teaching undergraduates and post- graduate students and allied health professionals in the discipline. The teaching commitment may vary with the development of the new curriculum. The haematology teaching commitments are currently coordinated by Prof Koh to ensure a robust delivery of the program. Consultants taking on additional teaching responsibilities will have time for these reflected in their job plans and the opportunity to be formal educational supervisors.

 

Training

There is also a program of teaching for the junior haematology, nursing and biomedical staff within the Department in which all consultant haematologists are involved. The post holder will also be asked to help lead on the formalized training of haematology trainees on rotation with the department.  The post holder will be directly involved in  educational and clinical supervision for the trainees.

 

Audit and Clinical Governance

The post holder will be required to participate in CPD and to maintain the relevant skills for the post. All consultants are expected to play an appropriate part in Clinical Governance of the haematology services and the areas of the Trust practice where haematological medicine is involved. Clinical Governance activity includes clinical audit, clinical guidelines and protocol development and clinical risk management. They will be expected to produce evidence of their contribution in these areas and audit of their own clinical work as part of their annual appraisal.

 

Appraisal

All consultants are required to undertake annual appraisal. The appraisal will be undertaken by a trained appraiser in line with trust guidance. In the event of an appraisal or job planning dispute, the matter will be escalated to the clinical director for the division and then to the Medical Director or Responsible Officer as appropriate.
