Summary

Are you passionate about food and looking to join a friendly and supportive catering team? If so, we would love to hear from you. We are seeking an Assistant Chef to support the preparation and delivery of nutritious, high-quality meals and snacks for up to 340 pupils in our Prep School. Working closely with the Prep School Chef and wider catering team, you will help prepare fresh, child-friendly meals, maintain excellent food standards, and contribute to a positive dining experience for pupils and staff.

The role involves preparing menu items to agreed recipes and standards, supporting the management of dietary requirements and allergens, maintaining high standards of food safety and hygiene, and assisting with the smooth day-to-day operation of the kitchen. You will be part of a collaborative team and may also support occasional school events and functions.

The successful candidate will ideally hold a Level 2 NVQ in Professional Cookery and a Level 2 Food Safety qualification, although equivalent experience will also be considered. You will have good culinary skills, a strong understanding of food hygiene and allergen management, and the ability to work effectively in a busy kitchen environment. A positive attitude, excellent teamwork skills and a genuine passion for providing high-quality food are essential. Experience in a school or educational setting would be advantageous.

The hours are 37 hours per week, term time only plus 10 days (36 weeks per year), working 7.00am to 2.30pm Monday, Wednesday, Thursday and Friday, and 7.00am to 2.00pm on Tuesdays. The actual salary is £21,543.04per annum, (FTE £27,253.82 per annum), including holiday pay.
