If you're creative, energetic and experienced in supporting adults with autism and learning disabilities, Bensham Resource Centre would like to hear from you.
We're looking for an Activity & Community Support Worker who can bring ideas, enthusiasm and practical support to our day centre in Thornton Heath.
This isn't simply about supervising activities. You'll have the opportunity to plan them, develop them and help the people we support participate more fully in their community.
From creative and life-skills sessions at the Centre to visits to cafés, parks, museums, libraries, leisure facilities and other local venues, you'll help create experiences that promote independence, choice, confidence and social interaction.
You'll work directly with our Service Users, getting to know their individual interests, communication styles, support needs and goals.
Your role will include:
- Planning and delivering engaging activities, skills sessions and events.
- Organising community visits and trips.
- Supporting Service Users to develop independence and make choices.
- Providing hands-on support with personal, physical, social and emotional needs.
- Providing personal care and continence support where required.
- Using verbal communication and AAC (Augmentative and Alternative Communication) approaches.
- Developing Person-Centred Plans and Positive Behaviour Support Plans.
- Contributing to assessments and reviews.
- Working closely with families, carers, social workers and other professionals.
- Helping identify new activities and opportunities for the Centre and its Service Users.
We're looking for someone who already understands the needs of adults with autism and learning disabilities, ideally through experience within a day centre or another SEND provision.
You'll need to be someone who is proactive and hands-on. If you see an opportunity for a new activity or a better way to engage someone, we want you to feel confident bringing that idea forward.
Relevant qualifications and training should include areas such as:
- Autism.
- Oliver McGowan Tier 1 and 2.
- Positive Behaviour Support (PBS).
- Behaviour that Challenges.
- Care Certificate - 16 Standards.
You'll also need good IT and administrative skills to support record keeping, plans, assessments and reviews.
A valid driving licence and willingness to drive for the organisation would be an advantage.
Bensham Resource Centre provides educational, therapeutic and recreational opportunities for adults with autism and learning disabilities.
Our aim is to help each person experience greater independence, choice, social interaction and fulfilment - both within the Centre and out in the wider community.
If you have the experience but are also looking for a role where you can bring your personality, creativity and ideas to the working day, this could be an excellent opportunity.
Hours are 9:00am-3:30pm, Monday to Friday, based in Thornton Heath.
If you're committed to improving opportunities for adults with autism and learning disabilities, apply today.
